Newbie Question on Lady Dior

Hello everyone,

Not new to TPF but to Dior. I have fallen in love with the look of the Medium Lady. However, I have a question since I have not seen this bag IRL. In some photos, it appears to be an open top bag. In others it has this flap inside. Does it have a flap? And if so, is it annoying, can it be removed and does it snap from one side to the other?

Also I see lots of photos here with scarves on the handles. Is this just a style choice or a dual purpose of protecting the handles?

The old old lady dior bags had a zipper with no flap closure.

The new lady dior bags should have a flap closure.

I don't believe there are any lady dior bags that are just plain open.

Hi Melissa! You’ve definitely fallen in love with a stunner! I purchased my medium LD at the end of last year, and as lill_canele mentioned, there is a flap closure. The flap cannot be removed, and there are no snaps. It is admittedly a bit annoying, but you do get used to it. The mitzahs tied around the handle(s) are both decorative and protective - especially if you opt for a lighter colored bag.

Annoying and cannot be removed, but yes, you grow accustomed

I don’t like twillys and I choose darker neutral bags or try to be very careful

Only other issues are the handles get in the way and don’t fold down (they kind of stick out); the medium LD is quite heavy for its size; and, the branding is a bit overt

if you love the bag, these issues are surmountable, otherwise pass

I love my medium LD around the world tapestry with black HW, but I end up reaching for my mens dior ergonomic crossbody saddle with seat belt strap a bit more

The closure was changed from zipper to flap some time after Maria Grazia Chiuri was appointed (2016). In the transition period around 2017-2018, you could find the flap ones as well as the last of the zipper ones in store. Different people have different preferences between the two. Those who absolutely hate the flap have the option of taking the pre-loved route but the newest ones you can find will be 4 or 5 years old now.

I have a medium Lady Dior with the zip and definitely recommend getting a bag with the flap closure. i’m not a fan of the zip personally. I don’t think there are any Lady Dior with open top - unless you’re thinking of the book tote which is all open?

I have several Lady Dior bags in medium and although it's not much different in size to the small My ABCDior, it's the perfect size and holds a lot.



I much prefer the flap (it can't be removed but it's in no way annoying, nor does it move from side to side) to the older classic zip style that others have mentioned. I found the zip opening quite restricted and I often felt my hands were getting scratched. The flap is much easier to get in and out of and is still a secure way to keep your belongings.

When deciding whether to get the My ABCDior or the medium size I watched this video:

My SA was also great in sending me plenty of photos to help me decide. The scarf on the handle is just to accessorise although it does have the dual purpose of keeping the handle clean from natural oils from the skin. The scarves are silk twill though so it would mean you'd need to wash the scarves professionally

If the bag looks like a Lady Dior but has neither a flap nor a zipper opening, it's most likely the small or medium version of the Diorissimo bag. I own the medium version of this one pictured on Fashionphile, and love it as a work tote:

You already gotten some wonderful feedback above. Just to add onto mitzah on the handle, I only use it on my light colored lambskin lady dior, because I have sweaty paws and use hand sanitizer a lot. The mitzah helps to protect the handle from discoloration and stains. I also have a black patent mini lady dior that I don't use mitzah on the handle since I mostly wear it as a crossbody bag, but maybe I will just for the decorative purpose.

I have purchased a small Lady Dior last month. I find that the strap is still a bit too long to wear as crossbody even when adjusted to shortest length. Has anyone faced the same problem? Is it possible to ask Dior to punch additional hole to the strap? Thank you.

By the way, I am 160cm.

You can do that easily with a local cobbler too!
