Hi

I’ve been obsessed with getting a botegga bag this past month. Looking to get from fashionphile or a similar place. Any advice on what style to get?
These are some examples of what I’m looking at View attachment 4951229View attachment 4951230View attachment 4951231View attachment 4951232View attachment 4951233View attachment 4951234

Welcome! BV is a slippery slope. You can't really go wrong with a BV bag, so it's a matter of what features you want your bag to have.
  • BV's intrecciato woven leather is iconic, so out of that lineup, I would arge that bags 1, 2, and 5 would be most recognizable to people who are aware of the BV brand, but aren't necessarily BV connoisseurs.
  • The 4th and 6th bags are Cervo (deerskin) leather. Cervo has a wonderful smooshy texture and they drape beautifully against the body.
  • All of the styles in your lineup are hobo bags, except for bag 3, so since you're leaning toward hobos, I'd suggest going with a hobo style, or you'll probably still be thinking about them even if you bought bag 3.
  • My personal preferences out of your lineup are for bags 1 (the medium Grey Veneta) and 6 (the large Nero (Black) Cervo Hobo).
  • You might want to peruse these BV Style threads to learn a bit more about the bags: "The" Cervo Hobo and Veneta/Belly Veneta. Also if you keyword search in the threads, e.g. for "cervo hobo" or "medium veneta" or "belly veneta" you should find TPFers talking about the experiences with their bags.
Good luck! :flowers:

Thank you! I also found another one and there are some Cervo bags that are cheaper than the black like a bright blue and red and in excellent condition. Still like the two you choose? Or one of these? Screen Shot 2021-01-08 at 6.22.53 PM.pngScreen Shot 2021-01-08 at 6.26.52 PM.pngScreen Shot 2021-01-08 at 6.27.02 PM.png

I have both styles, both are popular. My vote is buy the bag you love it your not crazy about it return it. There are many Cervos that regularly pop up on the resale market. BV Cervo is a wonderful leather that can take a fair amount of abuse.

So you recommend Cervo over the weaved? Or weaved come up less? I want all. Lol

Wanting it all is a common problem for us BVettes! :giggle:
  • It's nigh impossible to choose between a BV Cervo bag or a BV intrecciato bag. <-- That's oversimplifying. For the record, BV's intrecciato bags are usually made in lambskin nappa leather, but occasionally BV made intrecciato bags using different materials (deerskin (i.e. Cervo), lizard, satin, etc.)
  • My first two BVs were intrecciato because I was (and still am) enamored with the look of woven nappa leather. My second two bags, which I just recently acquired, were non-woven cervo hobos (post here), and they are cousin-styles to the Cervo bags that you've shared from the shopping sites.

  • My advice to you is: since you're mostly posting Cervo hobo bags, perhaps invest in one of them for starters. My SA at my local BV store recently told me that Daniel Lee, BV's new creative director after Tomas Maier, isn't inclined to work with Cervo leather. (I hope that changes someday!) Barring some drastic changes, BV will always be offering intrecciato bags, so you'll always find them on the resale market. Whereas, over time, the Cervo ones, in good condition, could become more difficult to find since they're no longer in production for the foreseeable future.

BV colors are the best of any brand, imo. So while for most brands I'd say start with a black/neutral bag, with BV I suggest starting with one of their stunning colors.
Thank you both for chiming in with great insight, I’ve had people buy bags they have hated because of my posts, I’m reluctant to suggest or even post anything to the forum anymore.

Aww, that's a shame! :crybaby: Nibb, your feedback on the Medium Cervo Hobo was tremendously helpful for me when I was trying to decide whether to go for that style, and I'm so glad I did. I'm sure you were sharing your insights in good faith, and if someone decided that a bag wasn't right for them, they shouldn't blame you (or any other TPFer) for their dissatisfaction. It was ultimately their decision to buy it in the first place, regardless of anything you ever said. :hugs:

Thank you! I’m really happy the posts helped you, you have stunning collection that is yours alone and I admire your bag collection, you have put thought into your collection and have selected what works for you and your style.
I spend at least a couple of hours researching a bag before I purchase it and always try to find it in a store to try on. I have noticed over the past couple of years, a euphoria comes over some people with bag pictures that get posted and true it’s a choice they make but it leaves me with an uneasy feeling.
