Newbie needs help! Is the waitlist of birkin in NYC boutique opened?

Hi every H experts,

I wish to get on the waitlist for a birkin 30. Does anyone happen to know if the waitlist in the Madison boutique is opened right now? I heard most of the time the waitlist is closed, right? Also, when get on the waitlist, will they allow me to choose the color of the bag and hw as well as the color of lining?

My one and only birkin is 35 togo black with PH which I got from Europe almost two years ago. I haven't buy anything here and don't know any SAs. However, I am also planning to buy one or two belts and bracelets this year, maybe it will help to "build" the relationship. I really want to buy from the SA who can get me on the waitlist.

Honestly, I would just try to go in, maybe buy a bracelet or a belt and then casually ask if they have anything available. I was there the other day and while I was waiting for my SA I saw a couple coming in, buying a key chain and a scarf and then asking the SA for a Birkin, the SA went in the back and brought out not one but two Birkins. The lady tried them both, but she was not sure about the colors so she told the SA she needed time to think about it. The SA packed the other 2 items and then gave the lady a business card telling her to call if she needed any help, so clearly they didn't have a previously established relationship with the SA. You won't be able to choose a different colour lining. That would be considered a special order. I think bags are more readily available at a lot of stores now and you probably have a good chance of going in and being presented with a few things. If you're prepared to be flexible in terms of leather type, colour and hardware, you will stand a better chance of obtaining a bag.

Nowadays, there are birkins and kellys available on the shelves. I bought my first birkin without any established relationship. I would suggest to just walk in and you might just walk out with a big orange bag. Good-luck!!

I know that there are more birkins available in the boutiques nowadays, but I am kind of picky in term of color and leather. I am looking for a 30 togo etoupe w/ ph or 35 rouge garrance togo for my next, but I think these two are both popular, so it might be harder to find in the shelves. I'd rather wait for a while to get my perfect one, therefore I am wondering if the waitlist is opened right now.
I will try the boutique next week, hopefully they will have the ones I am looking for. :)

iced latte -- the bags you are looking for should not be so difficult to find. If you have an SA, just ask them to do a search for you. Otherwise, make friends with one and I am sure they will be happy to find the bag you want. As others here have said, wait lists in the US (NY included) are really a thing of the past.

There hasn't been a wait list in years, at least on Madison. Great stuff pops up on the shelves constantly, although anything in the windows is usually already spoken for. There's always other merchandise in the 'back' and unless you've spent enough money in the front, you won't get to see it.

I'm going to be in NYC..should I be hopeful of snaring a Birkin in one of the H stores there?

Pardon this silly question, is there VAT refund for shopping in the U.S?

to my knowledge, there is no VAT/sales tax refund refund from any purchases in the states unless you ship it out of state to a state where the store does not have a presence or internationally where you might be liable for customs fees.

Last Saturday there was a 30 cm orange with gold hardware in the back glass case nearest the register. I wasn't purse shopping that day so didn't really look at the bags but that one popped out because it was a stunner.

These days the odds are good you can walk in a buy one.
Of course. if you have specific desires then that is different.
If the goal is any Birkin, any specs, my guess
is you have a very good chance of buying one right off the display.
