I love statement rings, and this looks like it's one! What fun!
You can do this in so many ways -- as a refined piece to compliment a lovely dress (the colors are great!) or as a funky piece to offset a fun jeans and blouse outfit.
Def a piece that you'll pass on. And DON'T TOUCH THE SETTING! With what looks like so many little pave stones, an inexperienced jeweler might loosen the setting and damage the ring.

I think it is a beautiful ring. I don't think you should alter it in any way. I'm sure it meant a lot to your aunt and IM(Humble)O I think it would be disrespectful to adjust it. Wear it on occasion just because, I think it would work great with a lot of outfits. Enjoy your ring.
