New releases: Blue agate

I went to see the new release yesterday.
From what I see the blue agate is mostly lighter shades as to what is seen at the boutiques.
Overall impression:

1) the pendant is nice. A real pop of colour. It was a very bright vibrant share of blue.

2) the ring is also gorgeous but personally I feel that it is overpriced. Also, one has to keep in mind that agate would show all the grease and fingerprints once it's been reversed. Same applies for guilloche side although the concept is wonderful in my view.

3) the earrings were mostly lighter shade BUT I believe one has to try them on before making a judgment. The pair in my hands and on my ear is the same pair. One has to remember that the lighting in the boutique is very harsh and direct which is very good to inspect the item but this is NOT the colour you would be getting in everyday day to day wear and in the natural light.

Overall I think the earrings are well matched and not translucent in general - I know that a lot of people who SO-ed these earrings before did not like the translucency. Also, I find that in blue agate the intense blue colour looks much better: a lot of people prefer darker shade of blue similar to lapis but my point of view is that agate is entirely different and it's beauty lies in this almost neon blue intensity.

Thank you for the great details and pictures. The earrings look great on you. Did you purchase anything from this collection? I purchased the BA pendant to match my BA 5 motifs bracelet. I'm excited to received it. Again, Thanks.

Beautiful styling combination done first by our own lovely @chiaoapple!

I was gonna say that. It's very @chiaoapple - coded, but I was a bit shy to mention her
Maybe the VCA people browse the forum
Ohmygosh, thank you both so much for the amazing compliment!!
That VCA advert styling is gorgeous, the shade of gray of the dress is just magical. And love how they try to “upsell” you by pairing the agate with the alternating diamond and guilloche rather than just the all guilloche one 😛
Will need to try out this stone / gold / diamond mix!

Just purchased the pendant—will pick it up on Saturday! Had a choice between a lighter and darker pendant. Very difficult choice—as both were pretty. In the end, I chose the lighter stone which for some reason just appealed to me a little more! Have no reason why—because both shades were gorgeous! I think the darker had a bit more of a purple undertone and I was looking for a true blue.

Will be stopping by my local boutique tomorrow to check out the pendant; that's as much agate blue I can see myself wearing. I've got an ongoing tradition of gifting myself something from VCA while traveling, which I usually do during my birthday month, so....you get where I'm going with this. Will be in Hawaii for my actual birthday so if I don't fall in love with something at my local boutique then fingers crossed I'll find something at the Ala Moana VCA boutique.

Other than the lower sales tax at 4% what’s the benefit of buying in HI? Better stock? Better service? If I’m from abroad would I be able to get the tax back, similar to getting VAT back in Europe/Japan/Korea?

Congratulations!

I also had a choice of two shades. Originally the darker set was shown to me, but when I put it next to the lighter, more vibrant blue pendant, I instantly knew I was after the lighter, neon blue shade. Here is the photo of the darker earrings + pendant and the lighter pendant next to it.

The darker shade had a definite purple undertone which is not really showing well in the photo. I felt that due to this cooler undertone, it would, perhaps, be more suitable for someone with a cooler skin tone. But of course it’s just IMHO. For me, that vibrant, almost neon blue, is a better choice.

Unfortunately, you cannot get the tax back. Sales tax is set by State governments, not by the Federal government. If you are a diplomat posted to the United States you don’t have to pay the sales tax. Other than that I don’t know of any other way to avoid it.

Congrats to you as well!! I agree about the purple undertone in the darker shade which was beautiful also! I think it’s totally personal preference here! The lighter one just appealed to me a bit more!
