My friend has a White Kelly that every couple of years she sends to Paris via her store for cleaning.

However, this time it has been returned by Paris, who have refused to clean it as they have a new policy that they will only clean White bags once. They will still do repairs on them but not clean them.

Has anyone else had this experience? At first she thought it was just the store that had got their wires crossed but she has spoken to Paris who have confirmed that this is correct.

Whilst it is not really dirty, as you can imagine, my friend is quite upset by this as she always assumed that she would be able to send this bag to the spa as she uses it a lot over each summer. TIA

OMG....that's crazy! I can totally understand why your friend is upset. I haven't heard anything about this so far but I wonder why they changed their policy about this.
Especially white bags show dirt quite easily and for that amount of money you would assume that you can send it to spa anytime :shrugs:.

I assume that there is a charge for the cleaning service so I find it really odd that they would refuse to clean her bag more than once given that they are supposed to be lifetime bags!

Hmmmmmmm how odd!!!!!! But it was bound to happen !!!

I don't get it...why would they do that? I'm always a bit afraid for white bags as they show dirt so easy but no way that I'm going to buy a white Hermès bag in future if I can't send it in for cleaning.
For me it was a big plus that you can send white H. bags for cleaning to spa. Besides, the customer pays for the spa cleaning so I don't understand why they would change their policy. This is really odd.

I remember reading here something about how white is a great color because it's the only color that Hermes can "paint" on (as opposed to just cleaning it) if necessary.
It really sounds odd. Why not clean it and charge all they want?
At least older white bags ought to be grandfathered in, even if they will stop cleaning white bags bought later.
If this is really their policy, they are going to get a lot of complaints.

My understanding is that they have a special apparatus to like, spray paint, the bags. This machine is only in Paris.

My guess is that if this procedure is repeated the results become less satisfactory over time, because there would be build up of paint or color, and that would be very hard to control. Probably Hermes are not happy with the results of repeat sprayings.

So they decided that they will only do it one time.

Just my guess.

That does make sense Bababebi and as I said in my original post, H are not refusing to repair the bag if necessary just only clean it once.

I meant it was Bound to happen because there was an abuse over the actual process but you are right if the customer pays well........I don't see what is the problem.

Excellent deduction! :D

Baba is totally correct.

Some people shy away from white Hermes bags solely for this reason. Rather than cleaning, they are re-coated with white color. Coat after coat could create a change that Hermes just does not agree with. Smart Bababebi!

^^ Smart indeed .
What Bababebi said make sense to me. But...sorry if this is a stupid question...does this mean that you can still send white bags to spa for 'regular' cleaning as much as you want? I mean, the cleaning without spraying or is that not possible for white bags?

I was wondering the same thing. My guess is they should accept it for cleaning without spraying if spraying is the objection, but since cleaning white without spraying isn't going to be totally effective they might tell you it won't make a big difference.
