Thank you so much for the update! I am surprised your laptop did not fit because my SA specifically promoted this as an ‘ideal workbag’ but apparently it is not :wtf:! I guess I just assumed it would easily fit a 13-15” laptop. It is still a gorgeous bag that is on my radar as a potential travel bag perhaps.🤔 We shall see.
Someone asked this a few months ago if I remember well, and back then I made a mockup to see what would fit. A 13" MacBook fits, but like only when carefully placed in the middle, the corners would still be close to the zipper, a 15" one is peeking out by a mile. Maybe at Vuitton they think work now means iPad mini :D

So yes, if I placed it strategically, the 13inch laptop would fit very tightly. I had trouble taking it out and the bag was empty. So not a workable bag. Too bad too, it’s gorgeous, but I refuse to pay that price. Also I went back to LV and the display piece already showed scratches on the top, smooth part. Ugh. But yeah, very beautiful. In the meantime got on delivery the speedy Damierlicious, but didn’t have a chance to open yet. Small consolation!

LV historians, how many versions of Lockits has there been?! I mean at least the one from 2013 was called the Soft Lockit, but still, anyone knows why they reuse names? It makes things quite confusing.
If I'm not forgetting anything there has been 7 (?) redesigns
The "Lock it" is my favorite LV bag, in fact the only one I actually like, and I've been obsessed since that Wednesday, March 8 2011 at roughly 3 am when against my better judgment I woke up to watch the runway live stream despite being a school night and me really not liking the brand back then or now!

The first iteration is from the 50's, it was originally plain canvas with leather trims and it remained unchanged for literally 60 years. This version came in vertical and horizontal, in the monogram and Nomade leather. I HATE this version, it's horrendous. I think it was available until 2010

Around 2008 it was re-edited for the Suhali line but it also came in croc. Technically this was called L'Inviolable but it's still a Lock It (which btw at times is spelled as 2 words and another as 1 word adding to the confusion!). This was a really beautiful but clunky looking bag made of several panels. It came in a squarer shape the original model and, more importantly, as a clutch/wristlet!
Truly gorgeous in any variation

For fall 2011 in that blessed morning Marc remixed the 2 previous models into the most streamlined version yet.
This version came in a plethora of options: patent, rubber, shearling, exotics, nylon, rubberized leather, all in at least 2 color ways + glossy monogram, a super special edition in metal that didn't went into production but Angelina Jolie still carried, and guipure that also wasn't produced. Every single bag in that runway is a Lock It in different sizes that go from a square unproduced clutch to a shearling travel size. This version returned for Spring 2012 but this time in embroidered transparent net with white Taurillon and Vachette leather in the square clutch and a vertical version.
This model remained in production as part of the main line until 2013 in either regular monogram with vachette handles or full Vernis leather + as a special order piece in Écorce leather if I'm not mistaken. This is also the version that Kusama used for her first collection.
The vertical Lock It in rubber from 2011 was later reworked as the Soft Lock It for the fall 2013 women's runway collection (and there's also a very similar bag not named lock it from maybe cruise 12-13 in a special edition colored Damier), and Kim Jones also reworked the travel size for the fall 2013 men's collection: making it only in Taurillon, adding a removable strap and changing the handles
This model has VERY specific details.

Then also in late 2013 a totally different "Soft Lockit" was released this is basically a "W" bag from around the same time with a few minor details changed and they've both been discontinued long ago. I also HATE this version.

For spring 2016 Ghesquière took the fall 2011 BB version and changed the 2 rolled handles for a single back wrist strap and added ugly metal circles on top of the patent leather it came in.
I also HATE this version

Eventually all the Lock Its disappeared and just remained as the fundraising bracelets with the silver lock or a completely different bag called the Lock Me which I think eventually still pops up on the website.

Eventually for his last collection Virgil brought back the Voyage version but mixing Marc's shearling and Kim's changes in a colorful rendition.
Then we got another one in the blurry monogram and currently on the website a large size in the Millésime leather +, I believe, a portfolio version no longer available. All these "for" men.

On the women's side we have the version discussed on this very thread that's no longer available and most closely resembles the Lock It Horizontal of the 00's, and yet another runway piece by Ghesquière: a BB version that combines the original 2011 rubber vertical construction with the main line vachette-monogram combo of 2013

In this case the name has been recycled because they all come from the same particular shape and have been in constant evolution for the past 16 years, plus this is THE bag of all the LV "City Bags" that you are supposed to close with a lock. This really should be THE LV Birkin (in fact I called them out for trying to make it this in the original purseblog post about the fall 2011 collection back then!) but they keep fumbling the design every 6 months

*I'm willing to add photos, it's just to late, 2:44 am, for me to gather some of these right now :)

Small correction:
The Suhali version came out in 2006, not 2008, and it was called L'inoubliable (the unforgettable) not L'Inviolable (the inviolable), I was confusing it with the original Steamer bag name "Inviolable".
I also forgot a "than" near the end of the paragraph
