I noticed today that my NF DE GM strap is cracking. I've had the bad for 2 years, but literarily used it maybe 10 times. I do load it up with two small kids plus my stuff... but I've always heard how it can withstand 200 pounds!!
I'm just wondering what will happen to the strap if I don't repair it at this time. Will it get worse? Stay the same ? If DE is prone to cracking, it's bound to happen again even after repairs. Just want to hold off as much as possible

Do you have a picture to share?
Was this bag bought directly from Louis Vuitton? If so, you need to take it to your local store as soon as possible for inspection. They might offer you a complimentary repair if they find that this is premature wear and tear. But time is of this essence here so don’t wait.

Yes purchased directly from LV

Not sure if it's defective or not but in my experience with Damier Ebene all my straps look cracked like that. I think it's just that kind of leather and normal wear and tear. The function of all my bags like that are all still perfect so I've never bothered to return to LV and ask about it. Not sure if this helps any.

Mine looks exactly the same (bought it two years ago, when the rose ballerine interior was introduced). Showed it to two different SAs at my local store and both said it was normal, they could replace the straps but it is bound to happen again. I did not want to give my bag away for 8 weeks so I chose to live with it.

This is normal. But really to avoid as much as possible be careful when storing. Make sure the straps over lap each other over the bag. Do not bend the straps the opposite direction even when reaching into the bag be mindful not to bend the straps the opposite direction too much. I get that is difficult when having children around but really a lot of these things I have seen on the forum can be preventable.

I store my de gm with the straps standing straight and tied with a piece of elastic. My straps are still stiff and in great condition but I believe it's only because I don't use it very much-just car trips and overnight stays. It's about 7 years old. Kind of a waste of money on my end in my opinion. DE was so prone to cracking and damage that I took precautions when I bought it as far as use and storage. A waste. Sure is pretty to look at on a shelf though lol!!

mine look the same and I've had it for 4 years. Decided to leave as is and it hasn't gotten worse. I use collonil to condition it ... hoping it won't keep cracking, Just to give you an idea, my speedy b long strap is starting to show those signs as well. Kinda sucks, but I guess that's what happens with DE. Now, my neverfull DA looks beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the vachetta looks amazing! I am learning to appreciate the vachetta and learning to slowly make it age evenly and beautifully. in my experience it takes some patience. My only problem is that I am not a monogram fan so I have to stick to the DA. Like someone else said, enjoy your bag!!!!!!!

Has it gotten any worse? I also don't want to send bag off only to have it happen again. If it gets worse i rather wait and just pay for the strap replacement.

It’s normal wear and tear - mine is like that and I have it for almost 10 years. I never bothered to have LV replace it. Just enjoy the bag.

Do u mean it happened after 10 years or it's been like this for 10 years? I don't want to replace it just to have it happen again. I don't mind leaving it and just enjoying the bag, just worried it will get worse. But if u are saying these cracks don't affect the use of the bag then I'm all for leaving it.
