Need your thoughts on this necklace

I just checked my own dbty necklaces and others from tpf. I think the rings in your chain are too big. Can't tell if the rings in the dbty are also big, because they are sideways. Please check out tpf photos for yourself.

The dbty chain is mainly open (very small) circular rings connected together. due to open circles, the chain gives the look of "floating in air". There are different size dbty chains for different size diamonds. "Thicker" chains have bigger and thicker circles. The chains for 15-pt and 20-pt diamonds are thicker than those for 5-pt to 10-pt. For your 20-pt dbty diamond, the thicker dbty chain in 14K or 18K gold is sturdy enough for daily wear.

Do you think the current chain is too thick for the diamond? Hmmmm. I was thinking if the current chain would look fine if there are smaller connector rings to the diamond. The diamond is 0.20 carat

Honestly, yes, I think the current chain's design (solid chains of metal spaced close together) and thickness do not go well with a single, 20-pt dbty diamond. The chain may be good for pendants (e.g., one with a bale, or a dangling stack).

Regardless of what I think, it is what you like that counts.

Definitely, making the rings smaller (by at least 1/3) will lessen the awkward look. However, having the standard dbty chain makes the look right (pleasing).

I have a dainty dbty necklace with multiple, small diamonds and thin (platinum) dbty chain. I also have thicker, non-standard dbty chain with multiple, larger (over 30-pt) dbty diamonds. From my shopping experience, I have learned that proportion is very important in jewelry design.

Equally important is function. You will go crazy having to re-position your dbty diamond often. The extra C is nice, but it adds weights, thus tipping the balance and making the dbty run up to your neck. You got to keep the backside light (also use small clasp, and just large enough to ensure good handling). Using a lighter chain(less solid) will also help minimize the sliding problem.

Thank you for the honest comments. I just thought of the sliding problems now because of the C charm. Maybe, I would need to wear it a lot first to check. Then if it pulls the necklace towards my neck, I would have the charm transferred to my other necklaces or make it a pendant :)

Rami00,
Very, very nice photo and dbty necklace. It is a good illustration of small rings. Your diamond looks huge!

One important advantage of the dainty looking dbty chain is that the focus is on the diamond, because the chain makes the diamond look big. A thick, solid chain, especially with large rings, on the other hand, will overwhelm the dbty diamond.

CSG, I really adore your gold chain and the C (they go nicely together), but they are for a different center jewelry design than dainty dbty.
if it is not feasible to make modifications now, you can try wearing the current necklace for a while and see what you think. If you decide to change to dbty chain later, you can always save the current chain for something else.

I was just so confused about why yours looks so different than my DBTY (purchased from Tiffany's) and then I realized that yours is the solitaire DBTY necklace. This is the one that I have:

I like how the multi-diamond necklaces have the rings on the sides instead of at the Mickey Mouse ear position. I never realized that the solitaires look like Mickey until now.

Thank you so much. It gets so many compliments...the thin chain almost disappears (if you look from a little distance) and the diamond just looks floating on your neck. I have an awesome SA who suggested to stick with something under .30 for dbty necklaces. Mine is .26 (I made the pic bigger to show the details hehe)

I am still thinking if I should replace the chain but definitely I would ask my jeweler to remove the connector rings on the side and make it mickey mouse hahaha! I will be posting a when worn pic in a while.

I love your necklace! Yours is perfect!

When worn

I wore it earlier and surprisingly the diamond pendant does not flip nor move up towards my neck (due to the letter C charm at lock).

This is my humble T &. Co. DBTY necklace, the connectors do sit at 10 and 2 position. I hope this is useful for your reference. Sorry about the quality of the photo as I only have one and the sparkle is very difficult to capture.
