Hello! I asked my local jeweller to make a diamond necklace for me inspired by Tiffany & Co. DBTY necklace.

14karat yellow gold, brilliant cut diamond VS1 E, 16 inches length with jump ring at 15.25 inches, with letter C charm at the end.

What do you think? I wanted a thinner chain but according to the jeweller a bit thicker chain like this one would be more sturdy.

I was also thinking of removing the connector rings and make it look like "mickey mouse" ears but not sure if it would cause the diamond pendant to flip backwards when worn.

I need your inputs -_-

Thanks

I have no quick fix solutions, but I see some issues with the current design of dbty diamond and thick chain.
Appearance - the dainty dbty diamond (dainty design and small size of diamond) is inconsistent with a thick chain.
Functionality - the light dbty diamond will ride up your neck and then to the back. The backside, connector assembly looks pretty heavy relative to the dbty diamond, and so is the weight of the thick chain.

Flipping is the least of your worries.
Doubt that changing to a mouse-ear connector will solve the problems.

In order to make good of the existing jewelry, I would add to the dbty diamond a dangling, bigger, or perhaps different shape diamond (can be round diamond but with different shape metal frame). The extra diamond hanging at the bottom will balance the weight and overall proportion of the jewelry design. Of course, you will end up with a non-dbty look. Well, you already started out with a non-dbty look with the thick chain and especially the relatively large connector rings.

I think i would have been disappointed with the final result if i were looking for dbty style. I feel your jeweler may have steered you in the wrong direction. I do love the addition of the charm in the back, that's very cute. I would remove the extra jump rings at the diamond and keep just the mickey mouse ears. It will be closer to what you wanted. There are many delicate chains that are very strong. I don't always feel thicker = more sturdy. The way those extra rings are, it could cause it to catch on something and break.

The side chain-connector rings on the DBTY necklace are at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock. Yours are at 10 and 2. That's why it looks funny to me. Also you need a lighter chain and remove the other rings (I agree).

the jump rings are the only way to connect the chain to the dbty diamond. You cannot get rid of them.

I do not see any solder. You may be seeing shadow. The ring from the dbty and the ring from the chain are perpendicular to each other.

Ask the jeweler if he/she can make the chain's ring a little smaller. Guess it may be very difficult to do.

I just checked my own dbty necklaces and others from tpf. I think the rings in your chain are too big. Can't tell if the rings in the dbty are also big, because they are sideways. Please check out tpf photos for yourself.

The dbty chain is mainly open (very small) circular rings connected together. due to open circles, the chain gives the look of "floating in air". There are different size dbty chains for different size diamonds. "Thicker" chains have bigger and thicker circles. The chains for 15-pt and 20-pt diamonds are thicker than those for 5-pt to 10-pt. For your 20-pt dbty diamond, the thicker dbty chain in 14K or 18K gold is sturdy enough for daily wear.
