Hi all, for bal city owner i need your opinion. Im new to Balenciaga, and would like to ask. Im interested to Bal city metalic edge in Black or Dark Red (Maroon) colour, gold hw. Still havent decided yet. Which colour do you think is the best and will last for a long time?

And what is the difference between goat and lamb skin?which one is mo durable?

And does black or red colour will fade or turn yellowish after some time?if yes, how long will that be?

And how long will the bal city bag will last?5 -10 years +?

Sorry for this lots of questions, as i want to be very sure before i make my purchase..

TIA

1. Black. For sure. Especially if it is your first Balenciaga or first City.
2. Goat is more durable.
3. Neither color should fade or yellow.
4. Will last for 10+ years if well cared for, just like any bag.

I think some blues and greens tend to yellow and/or fade, and some pinks also fade. I don't think fading/yellowing is a problem in recent years after Bal changed their agneau leather to the more waxy/glossy type. I have seen faded Maldives and Bubblegum bags before. Maybe ladies with more expertise can name a few other colours that are prone to fading.

I own 2 black cities (1 agneau and 1 metallic edge) as well as quite a few other colours (mostly darker colours) and I have yet to have any problem with fading.

I would go with black with gold. ..it's a classic. Black easier to take care off. Metallic edge Goat is more sturdy and structured but after use, it will slouch very nicely and beautifully...I love my metallic edge city. Goat is heavier though, but I feel not by much unless you are carrying heaps and heaps of stuff. If you take care of it, the bag will last for years to come. I don't think both these colors would really fade..the coating they put on the leather these days makes it less prone to fading. Black wouldnt have any " darkening of the handles issue ". However, dark red with gold hardware is beautiful and if you love the color more and it goes with heaps of your clothes in your closet, then there's no reason not to go for it. :)

Yes, I agree Black is a classic 😍. It is great to hear that Black and Red colour this recent years will not fade/ turn yellowish.
But do u think for the gold hardware eventually will get rusted or tarnished? Is it made of brass?
And what about Balenciaga after sales service ?are they really take care of the customers IF after some time the bag needs a repair for example, loose stitches, crack leather, zipper etc?
TIA

You won't have a problem with fading on either of these bags. Sometimes the black agneau can fade to a greenish color but I can't imagine that happening with chèvre. You shouldn't have a problem with the hardware rusting or tarnishing either. Balenciaga is about as good as anyone is these days with customer care, from what I've heard. I don't think they've got a "Zappos" reputation for outstanding service, but I've had little need for service, luckily, so I can't speak to that one much. As a general comment, these bags are fairly well made and low maintenance. Every now and again you hear about a quality issue, but for the hundreds of thousands of bags Balenciaga has sold and the number of really old bags in circulation, I would say they are extremely well made.

Thank u for the reply.

As per your experience, do your Bal City handles stitches become wear/frayed/damage overtime? as when you carry the bag the handles stitching will rub against each other.

And for those who has experienced this, if the handles stitching get damaged overtime, can we send our bag to Balenciaga and have them repair it?

TIA

I'm new to bal too and thinking about the lambskin as I'm in London in a few weeks and wanting one for my birthday. It the classic lambskin really shinny? Looking at the classic hardware, sorry for gate crashing your post! Hope you don't mind! Xxx

Go black! I love love love my black bal! The chèvre is so luxurious!

May I ask what is the difference between agnea and chèvre leather? And I have noticed the metallic edge comes with not shiny leather, what is the terminology to call that type of leather? TIA

I'm also keen to know about the difference between the 2 leathers!

Agneau is lamb and chevre is goat. Some people collect the older chevre bags (discontinued in S/S 2008), they become beautifully soft and puddly as they age, although I don't have any experience with the newer chevre, hopefully someone else can speak to that. I feel that both leathers are quite strong and durable. Every bag is different, there are years when some leathers are better than others, or some bags within any given year can have a nicer leather than the next. As far as I know, the current metal edge bags are all chevre.

thanks so much muchstuff, that's super helpful :D do you know much about the finish/sheen of the types of leather? i.e. is a particular type that is more glossy or shiny?

I know there have been quite a few comments about the finish on the agneau bags being somewhat shiny, I believe it's some type of finish on the leather. I've read that the expectation is that is wears down to a more matte look. The metal edge chevre does seem to be more matte when new, and from what I've read, more structured. But there have been posts saying it does start to soften fairly soon. I don't own any of the new bags, this is just what I've read on various posts. If you look under some of the threads regarding the ME bags you'll get more info from people that actually have the bags!

I think the shine can vary quite drastically. I bought both a black Town and a black City in December - Town is very shiny, City is very matte.... both are Agneau leather and from the same season. I'm new to Bal so not able to advise much, only share my experience :)
