I go off on the alarms every time and to be honest when your trying to get through the line with all of your things and then you are pulled aside and patted down, idk, i get very annoyed with it because its every time (and it seems to be there is never anybody standing there ready to do the pat down, they always have to call someone in to do it which is a hassle). i have just decided to take it off from now on. Not worth the hassle

^Given that you can't take tiny nail scissors or even a metal file I am positive it would be confiscated. On your body it would likely beep and in your hand luggage it would trigger a bag search. Better just to be wanded.

haha...i work at LAX airport and there aren't anymore wands. If you alarm, you simply get a pat-down. You are never required to take it off. However, chances are you might go through the new body imaging machine and thus prevents a pat-down.

Any tools including a screwdriver under 6" are allowed. Any size scissors under 4" are allowed.

I strongly suggest you NEVER EVEERRRR take off any jewelry and send it through xray. I have seen TOOOO many people take off their wedding bands and diamond earrings and then forget them in a bin or lose it while taking it off. Simply not worth it...

The only jewelry items that alarm are bangles/cuff bracelets OR hoop earrings. That's it!

I always end up writing up a report and spending up to several hours rewinding security cameras and zooming in to see if they even had the jewelry to begin with or if they're trying to file a false claim...

The joys of being a police officer @ LAX.. :p

I go through a metal detector everyday for my externship. I work at a court house and I ALWAYS set off the alarm, but the security guards know I am a law clerk, so they don't wand or pat me down. Today, I tried that trick by folding my arm at the elbow and tucking my arm close to my body (I was pretending to adjust my shirt collar) and I didn't set off the alarm! Whoopee!

ang3lina33 - Is it acceptable to refuse to take off a large watch?

Of course, never take it off!!! In fact, they're not allowed to force you to do anything...

Dense solid gold watches also make the machine alarm. I forgot to mention that. But other than that...that's it.

Interesting you say this. When going through security at an airport, officers are not supposed to tell you ways to deceive/trick the walk-through metal detector. They can get into deep trouble for this. But there are ways to deceive it especially with the frankenstein method mentioned a few posts ago.
