I don't live near a Chanel and my only purchase so far has been a pair of Chanel heels.
I was at a neiman Marcus with a Chanel counter and asked about some small leather goods that are shown online but not in stock at that store.
The sales associate told me that I need to have a bag purchase history in order to do any phone orders or to have an item from another location shipped to me.
Is this accurate?
I found that quite annoying and pretentious ; I'm not interested in a Chanel bag right now & I prefer a different color item to what was in store.

Yes
My understanding was that in addition to fraud protection, it was also to ensure limited product went to established clients and to minimize returns from unknowns.

Maybe because the boutique is different from neiman Marcus counter? The shoes were from a stand-alone Chanel store

Well the NM and Chanel boutique are in two different states so no friction or toe stepping there.
I just wanted to buy a small leather item ; was ambivalent about the one in store, fell in love with the online option but apparently I don't have any way /option to purchase it.
Honestly I got frustrated and feel like I'm not good enough for Chanel so I went elsewhere.

Yes, that is true, you have to have a profile with Chanel, which means you needed to have purchased something from a stand alone boutique or a store within a department store. I’ve heard that this is for fraud protection, since they match you to your government issued photo ID at the time your profile is set up.

Apparently my shoes were not enough of a history?

If the shoes you purchased were at the shoe section of NM and not in a Chanel store, then it won’t count, because you didn’t set up a profile with Chanel at the time of purchase.

Edit: nvm just saw your post, shoes were purchased at a stand alone boutique. Then you should have a profile with Chanel from that purchase, and should be eligible to have the item shipped to you. Whether another store would release the item to your NM SA is an entirely different issue.

Yeah idk why she said the shoes aren't enough

I’m sorry you felt this way. Seems like your footwear purchase might not have been recorded. Chanel isn’t that staunch in my experience

Neiman Marcus requires that you have Chanel purchase history from inside NM. Stand-alone Boutique purchases don’t count. I experienced this last year. However, you *can* purchase Chanel shoes from NM without a purchase history.

What you can do is contact a boutique SA (perhaps the one you bought the shoes from?) and have them remote send the item to you.

Alternatively, if you have the ref number for the item, call customer service. They can send your request to a store and an SA reaches out to you. I’ve done this at least 5 times successfully.
