^ I honestly have no idea what it is made of! It says .925 on the clasp but I have no real way of telling I guess since it was a gift and it wasn't even purchased in Canada. It also has no other markings on it that would indicate who made it etc... I just assumed it was sterling, but I could be wrong...Guess I will wait and see what they say tomorrow. I just want it in wearable condition again and then maybe this time around take better care of it so it doesn't end up in this bad of shape again!

if its stamped it should be solid sterling (although i suppose anyone can write that on anything). your jeweler can let you kno if its plated or sterling. ive had things in worse shape than your bracelet that ive had polished...always comes out like brand new

Good to hear you've been careful with it. There is such thing as Sterling Silver Plating as well as just traditional silver plating which is what originally thought could be the case here, hence the re-galvanizing idea. I assume poshcitymom was thinking the same.
However, I was thinking about it yesterday and looking at the pictures again and seeing the "925" engraving I think all this really needs is a good wheel polishing by a professional jeweler. You could try a silver creme but I have a feeling the tarnish is too severe.

I took it in and apparently even though its marked as 925 it's sterling silver coated...so it has to be re-galvanized. I was told it was going to cost more than what the bracelet was worth. I am going to get a second opinion from another jeweler tomorrow or on the weekend. The girl I went to didn't seem too willing to help me, and she didn't even give me a $$ figure just said it would cost more than it's worth, so I just took it back and left.
Taking it to the other place is also my sort of excuse to check out the pandora stuff they have and see if I can get myself a bracelet with the anchor charm hehe!! I have been hooked since seeing it on display at the Elle Fashion show in April!

It's too bad you weren't able to get it re-galvanized for a reasonable price. However, I think a second opinion is a good idea if this girl didn't even give you a quote.
You're looking at buying a Pandora bracelet though? How exciting! I've been collecting charm beads for a long time. I know Persona beads fit on Pandora bracelets and so does the odd Troll charm. Once you've got your bracelet, I would take a look at their products too.
The anchor charm is beautiful, I can see how you would get hooked on it. Good luck and let me know if it all works out for you.

I just saw the anchor charm on someones bracelet here and it happened to be on the same day that I was wearing my pinup/vintage looking pinstripe with navy anchors dress that I just got and kind of fell in love. I have a weak spot for anything that resembles pinup.

I never used to look at pandora jewellery as "adult" looking jewellery until the Elle fashion show! All the models were wearing pieces with designer gowns and casual wear and that's when I realized they don't look like normal charm bracelets like I had when I was younger they are like 1000x better! Also from the Pandora threads here I see it's all in how you choose to style it for it to look nice.
I am also planning on finding my sister a bracelet and the cupcake charm for her birthday!

I don't know how soon I can get there though since I have to work this weekend now :( and it's also a long weekend...but I am sooo getting a second opinion on the bracelet. Honestly though if its not too pricey I might do it. I have no clue what the bracelet actually cost since it was a gift, and even if it is a little pricey I may still do it because it has sentimental value.

I understand your initial outlook towards pandora. I feel like, often, companies will market to a younger age group to attract a new audience and try to instill brand loyalty at a young age. Chamilia pops into mind with their Disney collection. But they don't really understand that a child-tween image may turn away young adults. And the same can be said about marketing to the eldest age group.

Either way, the real beauty in charm bracelets is exactly in what you said: "it's all in how you choose to style it." Whether you get the bracelet now or later, it's a great idea.

Goodluck this weekend!

^ We sold pandora at the jewellery store I used to work at in our mall. This was when the brand wasn't very well known around where I live. I don't think they sell it at the store anymore though. All we used to carry were the ones that looked like tweens/teens would wear...We never got the expensive nice charms in, normally we just got the ones under $40-50 and I had no idea that some charms were soooo expensive until I started looking at the threads here! We didn't have any means to order different charms so it was bascially what we got in the store that was cheaper and that was what we only sold. Maybe that's why I never liked them??

Your problem is that you have a sterling plated brass bracelet, and it's not tarnished but the sterling wore off. I'm not sure it's worth it to have it plated again, it is probably a very inexpensive bracelet. If you love the style, maybe try to find that same style in sterling and buy that to wear.

But stop scrubbing becausevyou will just remove more of the silver.

I figured that out :( unfortunately...I am thinking of just getting a pandora bracelet LOL
Almost all of my jewellery is vintage costume jewellery that was handed down to me. While I do love my vintage stuff more than anything I have some serious allergies to nickle. If I wear them too often or for too many hours I break out. The only things I own that are real gold/silver are my rings and earrings. All my rings were gifts from my parents. All my earrings have been gifts too, I think, except for a couple of pairs.
I don't think I have ever bought myself nice jewellery so it's about time to treat myself I think!
