i think the idea behind a journey pendant is wonderful but for such a young girl, i think diamond studs would be a classic, versatile gift. i'd let her SO (current or future one) get her a journey pendant later on in life. i'm 19 and diamond studs was the most practical jewelry gift i've ever received.

Thanks once again for your continued responses. You've all given me great ideas and food for thought. Divadivine~I LOVE Tiffanys and she has a few pieces from therm already. Mostly the great sterling collection. I don't know if anyone has heard of "Pandora"~but for part of her undergraduate degree gift we gave her the gold graduation charm bracelet and she still wears it quite often. She mostly likes white metals, but has a few pieces of real yellow gold and costume in YG that she treasures.

About the diamonds:
Here are 3 links to styles I am thinking of~from Blue Nile~just as examples:

Earrings:

Journey pendant @ 1 carat:

Princess cut solitare, at 3/4 carat~I like the bale on this:

Let me know what you all think of these three choices as examples, May seems like a lomg way off~but we already have recieved ticket info!!
Thanks~God Bless:ty:

i would suggest the diamond stud earrings then if she doesn't have a pair. they are classics. but i have another niece who also got her MSW a few years ago and she wanted a leather Coach work tote: she wasn't too keen on jewelry.

I like the idea of a diamonds by the yard necklace....I am in the same boat as your daughter i'm 23 and about to graduate from university yay!! anyways...I think the diamonds by the yard may be somewhat younger feeling than a journey pendant. I appreciate the message behind the necklace but I think that if it were me I would go crazy for a diamonds by the yard necklace, because you can layer it easily and its comfortable enough to wear all the time and still very modern and fresh looking...
I hope this helps

I'm graduating in May with my PhD and continuing on to Med School in the fall :faint:. I think a pair of diamond studs with screw backs would be great. Easily wearable, nontrendy (as I view the journey necklace) and classic. She could wear them daily and they could be dressed up for a more formal occasion. I'm 27 and have a pair that's 2 cts and wear them almost daily. For the necklace option which it seems you're leaning more toward, I'd go with a solitaire probably in a bezel setting as its another classic piece and a foundation piece of jewelry as are studs. Hope my two cents helps!
