That makes total sense. But why would the SA refer to it as "Fauve Leather"? So basically, I have a B Barenia Fauve?
My understanding is that "fauve" barenia is the current terminology for what used to be referred to as "natural" barenia.

I don't have any barenia (oh, how I wish I did!) but is has a very distinct smell.
Barenia is gorgeous and it develops a beautiful patina. I looked at a vintage 30, which was too small for me, but I love the distressed look of vintage barenia.

So excited for you!

Yes, all of you are correct. The color is called "fauve" and it is a Barenia, and it does have a distinct smell. It's the first thing I noticed. I enjoy the smell very much.

Thank you all for your comments and sharing your Hermes knowledge with a newbie like me.

Also how is box calf as a leather choice? Is it difficult to maintain?

Box calf is a wonderful wonderful leather... But its prone to scratch and if not treated it could get blister if it got wet.
My one and only box calf bag however (Brique Kelly) is in pristine condition with no scratches.. Thanx to Docride! I treated my box kelly with Blackrock and Obenauf. And everytime i got scrathes i just rub the scratch area with Blackrock and then wiped it with old towell and tadaa.. The scrathes are gone..
Box calf ages beautifully as well..! It gains patina with use and time..
I Love love love Box!!

That was really useful! If i go for box calf i shall keep Blackrock handy.
Also any thoughts on the colour of the birkin, i am thinking of really dark blue or gold... because i want to use it through the day mainly for work.
I am 5 feet 3'' petite so thinking of Birkin 30.
How would both these colours look on box calf?
Is box calf as heavy as togo or lighter?

I'd go with Gold, can easily be used for day and night. I would go with size 30 as well.. Im 5'1, my Bs are size 30 and only one have one B size 35. Box is definitely lighter than Togo. I dont think box is easily available though.. I started collecting Hermes only 3 years ago, i have not seen a box B in gold though, so i cant really comment on the color..

I've been offered a Kelly 40 black/GHW Epsom , AND a B35 PHW brown barenia (is Barenia difficult to care for?). I'm having a hard time deciding which one to choose.

I'm 33 and 4'11. Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks :)

Will you be worry if your bag change into darker tone in the future? Cause Barenia will patina. Some people love it as its part of the beauty of Barenia and its intoxicating beautiful leather smell. Some people dont love it as easily patina and marking from oily hand touch to water. It will eventually blend in though.

Oh! U have got the Fauve Barenia? Superb!Congrats!

Thank you! Yes, it is a Fauve Barenia and I love her!!!!

I don't mind the patina, I'm actually looking forward to the change. It will give my bag character.
I am very careful with it though, I'm afraid to scratch it, but I will soon get used to the idea that it's part of the leather and soon enough I will lose that fear. In the meantime, I'm babying it.
The slightest finger nail scratch marks it, but it goes away after you lick you finger (I know it's gross but it works) and rub off the scratch. The SA showed my boyfriend how to do it.

I have a very special bag, when I walk with her, birkin owners stare at her. I would like to think that they do that because she is very special. ;)

Also while I was at the store I saw an orange bearn wallet again box calf... Feeling tempted :-))!!
But box calf for a wallet... I am wondering if it will be practical... It looks gorgeous, though!!!

All suggestions welcome.

Major congrats AttaGal.. Woww.. You got a boxcalf B brand new from boutique wooooww... That is rare.. At least in my part of the world!
Do post pics.. Such beauty needs to be revealed here..
Check out Docride's thread in Vintage Bag Nightmare to learn how to treat your boxcalf safely, as boxcalf is prone to blister when it catches rain. i treat my boxcalf with Blackrock Leather 'n Rich and Obenauf every 6 months.. I was once caught in a pouring rain with my box kelly when i was travelling to germany last may, i wiped the rain from my kelly straight away after i found shelter, there were blister marks but then within 5 minutes after it dried the blisters are gone without a trace :)
As for boxcalf wallet hmmm... I wouldnt go for it if i were you.. Boxcalf can get scrachted very easy.. I'll stick with Togo or Chevre for a wallet..
Hope this help dear..
And congrats again for your box birkin.. And with GHW aaahhh... Its perfect!:tup::tup:

Thanks so much....
I just can't seem to get it off my arm :-))))
I am so happy with the box calf... Honestly if not for your advice I may have not gone with it... tHanks so much ...a big hug
Will post pics soon...
Hmmmm makes sense on the wallet...although it sure is a beauty.
Will order for black rock soon.
