Hi, I could really use some advice or opinions about a custom e ring that I have commissioned my jeweler to make. Instead of the typical diamond ring, I always wanted something unique, and fell in love with natural unheated dark pink sapphires. My jeweler had a few small stones in stock, but they were mostly for fashion/RHR and didn’t really feel intended to be an e ring.

So my jeweler allowed me to look at different settings in the bridal section and pick a few that we liked. The one that stood out to me the most was a 3 stone halo ring with, with a half micro pave band in 14kt white gold. They said they would be able to contact their sources and see what stones they could come up with to fit that ring (the stones are round brilliant cut diamonds currently). I would still want the diamond halo, just a pink sapphire center.

Tomorrow I am going in to see what they had found. My questions that I need advice or opinions on are these:

should I continue to go with a 3 stone setting (halo) and keep the pink sapphire center as planned (the other 2 stones would be diamonds)?

Should I ask to make all 3 stones in the current chosen setting pink sapphires?

Should I venture away from the idea of a 3 stone ring and just choose a single stone, perhaps have it set in a halo (more solitaire)?

I guess my concerns are that it will look too much like a right hand ring. With the setting I chose, the center stones in the halos aren’t as big as I had hoped for (also, the setting price is crazy, 3k for white gold?) I asked DF what he thought about the solitaire idea in halo, and he really didn’t like it whatsoever. I want to make him happy, but he isn’t the one wearing it :p

I found a few pictures on google and photoshopped them to get a rough idea of what each option could look like, with the exception of the solitaire.

I guess I’m really nervous and second guessing myself, especially given the cost of just the mount. Any and all advice or opinions are very much appreciated.

I like the 3rd one too!

But if had to choose between the 1st and 2nd, I'd choose the 1st as I think the 2nd has too much pink.

3rd one is still the best though ;)

I like the first one! I think it looks great, but I also like the 3 rd. The 2 nd is too much pink and detracts from the center stone. I have an non heat treated blue sapphire, 8 cts as mine. Set in platinum in a half bezel. It's a rectangular cushion cut. So I love colored gems as e rings.

I'm a three stone wearer. My ring does look more like band and I do get comments that it looks like a wedding band. But I think it's beautiful and there's a reason a lot of women "upgrade" to a three stone.

I like #1 the best.

I prefer the more solitaire look, although I don't really like the specific one in your 3rd picture.

That being said, if you're leaning toward 3-stone and your fiance hates the 3rd option, then I would definitely go with the first, with sapphire center and diamond side stones. Too much pink takes it further away from looking like an engagement ring. At least with the single pink stone you get a sort of solitaire-ish look with the central different stone, while keeping the 3-stone that you love.
