I really love the Prada Supernova, especially the gradient white version

Oooo, I am liking this one, too… Reminds me of my Givenchy Antigona - I had the bigger size and no longer have it… as it was too large and heavy…. This Prada Supernova may be the updated version to that… nice thing about it is different from what I already have - zipper vs flap closure (coco handle, kelly) or open top (peekaboo)… And we have a Prada store here in Toronto… Will have to check this out! Thanks!

Thanks for introducing me to this brand! First time hearing of them. The Judi is probably more my style, and great that the bag is made-to-order with customizable specs… obsessing over it now  Cheers,
Glad to hear it! I just received a little red patent Viola yesterday. It’s soo nice. The craftsmanship and quality seems to be really nice. The only quality issue I have are the clips on the removable strap. You can they’re not made of the same material as the gold-plated hardware that’s on the rest of the bag. That’s such a small thing though and not enough to sway me from ordering another bag this year. I really only plan on wearing the viola as a top-handle anyways. For my next bag I’m deciding between the Traviata or the Judi.

There’s only a couple reviews on youtube buty they’re worth checking out to get an idea of the quality.

I am like you - I love a bag with this shape and a top handle. Definitely my favorite style.

Like others above, I encourage you to look at the Valextra Iside, specifically the mini. The mini is more of a regular size, whereas the micro or nano are actively ‘small’. I love my Iside and want another one.

The Celine 16 is another interesting one. I suspect this bag isn’t talked about much on TPF for two reasons: (1) in the regular size it’s a touch matronly looking, and (2) it’s hella expensive compared to other popular Celine bags. In the small and mini sizes I think it’s quite cute and am considering it, if I can stomach the price point.

The Ferragamo bag is one I’ve long debated. I love the way the flap flares out over the bag, but I struggle bc I feel like the buckle is oversized? Still, it’s beautiful.

You and me both! I stay away from heavy bags (luggage being the exception… lol) Yes, I agree the look of the Brillant seems more timeless, and I have my eye on the mini in box… We do have a store here in Toronto, and will certainly test-drive it for ease of use (buckle etc). Thanks again for your insights!
The manager at the Yorkdale Delvaux is an absolute joy to work with. I’m sure you will have a nice experience! I personally prefer the Tempete but have fun!

Thank you for this! Yeah, I see that the Celine 16 has that “middle age spread” where it bulges out in the bottom like my muffin top… sorry, what has been seen cannot be unseen…. lol… i do have to check out Ferragamo (which we have here in Toronto), and Valextra during one of my travels… thanks again!

+1 for Ferragamo! I did not think I’d use this top handle bags as much as I have been: it’s become my go to. This one is vintage, but the smaller model is online and in shops currently. C63E861D-B462-4D3B-9BE7-726694BE0912.jpeg

I also love this shape! Here's my collection of trapezoids. Someday, I hope to add a Ferragamo, they are sooo beautiful!
Left to right, front row then back.

  • Aspinal of London, Small Lion Lansdowne Bag in gold moire silk print (Very small and only carries essentials. I love the moire print and especially the huge lion doorknocker)
  • Delvaux Brillant in bordeaux box leather with suede lining (very old and beaten up. Stands taller when full. Holds generous essentials + more)
  • Valextra Iside mini in Smokey Blue pebbled leather (holds essentials very comfortably)
  • Valextra Serie S in Azul VITELLO GLOSSY PLAYBOY leather (smooth leather). (holds essentials + more very comfortably and I find it similar to an LV Speedy BB in capacity and size--I might do a what fits comparison somewhere)
  • Chanel Cerf Executive Tote in black deerskin with a Somorga insert because this is the floopy leather. Love this. It holds a TON. Kind of heavy. Not sure if this fits in the trapezoid category, it might be more rectangular.
  • Aspinal of London, Midi Mayfair in Glossy Red Moc Crock. Holds plenty.
  • Suarez Brown Crocodile (or is it alligator? I cannot remember).

The Aspinals and Chanel are fabric lined, the Suarez and Valextras are leather lined.

I would say, the most useless is the Lion Landsowne as it fits very little and I don't have a lot of uses for a small gold bag, but how could I ever sell the door knocker? And when it works, it really works.

I use the Delvaux a lot even though it's beaten up. It's about 60 years old. It's very cool despite it's poor posture.

I rarely use the Suarez but would never sell it. It is so ladylike and beautiful and in excellent condition. It might have been my first leather lined piece. It might have been the bag that made me say, "Oh, yeah."

Midi Mayfair? Great bag. Don't use it much but I'm not sure why. It's cool as can be, I cannot figure it out. Have put it on eBay a few times, only to pull it right off. I'm a little skez about that bag.

The Valextras? Be still my heart. I wish I found them in different colors (I buy pre-loved). They are different shades of blue, but I now have 3 blue bags and that's kind of weird for me. There aren't enough good things to say about the Iside. I was a long hold out for the Serie S. I couldn't tell from photos if I liked the design or not. It just arrived yesterday. The color--the leather--the design--the edging--the chunky geometric zipper pulls. OMG. I hope to add more V bags in my future.

Let us know what you decide!
