omg ame, that is awful!!!! what on earth happened? please tell me you're ok and you're safe? did you get mugged or was your home robbed?

please keep us posted and of course, call the police as soon as possible, if you haven't already.

My sanity is broken but otherwise yes I am fine. We had a locksmith come and change all our house locks since my spare housekey was in there, as well as got my window replaced right away. Thankfully since it's rainy now!

I was not mugged, though I sometimes feel like it now...I can't sleep! I am scared they will come here next!

It was in my purse, which was (stupidly) left in my car while I was in the gym. I came outside to cops all around my car, and another which also got broken into, and luckily I had my phone with me so I could call and cancel everything and close my accounts. But it was one of those "everything you don't want in your purse/wallet was in there" situations.

I already filed my claim with both, so hopefully this can get worked out easily. The cops told me that it's basically not worth the effort to try to get those rings back, as even if I find the pawn shop they were sold to, Id have to buy them back, and the law enforcement can't do anything about getting my money back from the pawn guy because they won't lose money even if it's stolen property.

This will be my first claim with Chubb, which I have had since 04. So we shall see.

i am so sorry to hear that, ame. although i don't use chubb for my insurance, i have heard they're very easy to deal with and will reimburse you no questions asked, especially in this case where there was a break in and you didn't lose it. you'll most likely have to present them with the police report, but obviously that won't be an issue since the police were there as you were walking out to the parking lot.

omg, you must have been numb when you walked out and saw the cops there?

i know it's too late for you, ame, but for others, my husband is a personal trainer at a health club in an affluent area and he said that there are always, always break-ins in the health club parking lot in people's cars. the majority of them leave their purses in their cars instead of putting them in a locker at the gym or just leaving their purse at home.

i just started only bringing my driver's license and leaving that in the car and that's all i bring. i never wear or bring my wedding rings when i workout and i don't even bring my cell phone. after what my husband has told me that unfortunately this happens on a regular basis, i just don't think it's worth it. i always go straight home to shower aferwards anyway, so i don't need my phone or purse with me. just my driver's license.

i hope it all works out for you and please post any updates and especially if chubb follows through with their promise to reimburse you.

hang in there.

Thanks guys. This is a total duh moment, obviously. I hope Chubb can help me out quickly also. I contacted a jeweler that I know carries the same brand of center stone I had, and hopefully he can help.

OMG I am so sorry to hear this! Please keep us updated....

BTW, if you DID find your rings at a pawn shop, you would NOT have to buy them back, that is crazy. Call the police and they would contact the owner of the shop and the rings would be taken by the police as "recovered stolen property" and ALL pawn shop owners are mandated usually by state law and city municipal business codes for obtaining a Driver's License or otherwise issued government ID from the person "pawning" the rings/property.

Check Craigs list for your rings too!!! There is a TON of stolen property on there. If you locate them, call the police and advise them so they can follow up on it. Don't totally give up hope!
