I got my Tiffany & Co's little blue folder today which contained the certificate for my e ring.
Immediatly I went online and tried the HCA (http://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca/) to get my diamond's TIC. I was really excited because Tiffany & Co claimes that they have the best of the BEST diamonds. However the result is shocking, it came back 3.9, with 2 "good" and 2"very good". I was expecting at least 3 excellents if not all four. What does this mean? Either the HCA is not accurate or the quality of the Tiffany & Co diamonds are just not as good as they used to be. Or maybe just mine? I don't know. Very disappointed. Please let me know what you think. 1.10 ct, F, VS2, EX EX EX

how is the sparkle? do you love it? if you do, then don't think too much about the numbers. in any case, they have a return policy so you can always return or exchange if it's within the allotted time period. sorry to hear you're not excited about your ring

IMO the HCA is meant as a tool for when you CAN't see the diamond before buying.

If you looked at it before you bought it and loved how the diamond looked and have had it and love it, there is no reason to plug the numbers into the HCA. In that case, numbers are just numbers. in my case, I used the HCA before I bought diamonds from Blue Nile, sight unseen, because diamonds with certian numbers have a better chance to be sparkly. But they are not the only sparkly diamonds that exist. And there are diamonds that don't have the numbers that look great in real life just as there are beautiful girls who are not blond, 5 ft. 8, 125 lbs and 34-24-34. If you have one of those, why are you worrying? F VS2 EX Ex Ex sounds great to me.

If you don't like how it LOOKS then return it, but don't return itbecause of the HCA. That would be silly.

Don't get me wrong, I am very excited about my ring. :yahoo:
My DF worked hard for it plus it is the meaning that counts. Also, I am not sure if we can return it because the ring has been sized from 6 to a 4.
Maybe I just have high expectations because it is from T Co.

To be honest, all diamonds look the same to me. Maybe that's why we just went to Tiffany's to get a peace of mind knowing they only sell quality diamonds.

I honestly don't think Tiffany diamonds are all that or a bag of chips. They sell that "peace of mind" angle that if it's Tiffany's it's the best and it's not always. They do sell some amazing stones, but not every one is perfection as if they claim it to be. If it sparkles and you love it, then I don't see the problem, but now that you know it's not perfect on the HCA, you are probably going to taint it in your mind and now it's no longer mind-clean to you. That said, the angles are the angles, and that's where you get the most HCA bang, where it falls between 0-2. BUT: Just because it falls in that 0-2 range, doesn't make it an amazing diamond either. That helps weed out poorer performers. But there are some amazing stones above 2, and there are some dogs in the 0-2 range.

Because Tiffany has their own grading system, and doesn't use GIA or AGS on most stones, I don't usually buy their grades fully. GIA "cut quality" is not my idea of accurate for actual cut quality. AGS is the cut king for labs.

If your Fiance is willing to allow you to trade it for a different stone, you can try for another one with better angles. You can ask your SA to bring in a bunch and get some angles, and then post them on Pricescope for feedback. You can keep your setting as is, just change out the stone. But if you love it, leave it!

What certification is it? GIA? That's reliable
I find on pricescope people WAAAAY overanalyze and it's very easy to get sucked into that. And this from a pricescope member and who obsessed over her stone.

The HCA is a great tool for buying sight unseen or if you think your stone is questionable.

This is absolutely true. And it's also easy for the regulars who are gung ho over the PSvendor-du-jour to tell you you should return it bec Tiffany is a waste.

You got a pretty damn amazing ring there, you have to love it. And don't let the HCA tell you it's a dud, let your eyes tell you whats what.

i'm pretty sure they won't let you return it anymore since it's resized, though you MIGHT be able to claim that the "engagement broke" and they may refund a partial amount because i know they have a policy for that (i asked all kinds of questions when my fiance got mine). i think you can try this route if you really, really think these numbers will bother you in the long run. but it sounds like you're just disappointed that tiffany doesn't have the best of the best when it comes to diamonds and i just chalk it up to the fact that they still have a spectrum of diamond quality to reflect their spectrum of prices. if it makes you feel any better, you can trade in/upgrade for double the value of your ring at a later date and at that time, you will be equipped with all kinds of diamond knowledge. hope you find peace with this issue and congrats with your engagement! :smile1:

Can they not change out the diamond for another that's similar size with better specs? Then you have the same setting and a diamond you like more.

The specs are your ring are great. I have similar specs from Tiffany, and I love my stone. I think it is the prettiest diamond I ever saw. My FI constantly catches me looking at my ring. . .in elevators. . . in the car. . . in the anyplace with daylight or good lighting. Were you happy with your ring before the website analysis? If so, then that is what matters. I bet you know enough about diamonds that you do not need the website analysis. Trust yourself.

Tiffany doesn't use GIA anymore they have their own Lab report from what I understand
