Lovely gemstone! I was thinking an octet setting with the double prongs at each corner may help protect the stone?

pink caviar, actually good jewellers would advised Against using tanzanites in a ring (as it's too soft, with only 6-point-something on the mohs scale)

the colour is lovely though, and it's quite hard to find untreated stones nowadays.

and if there's one thing you should remember on buying jewellery, get the ones you fell in love with :-)

Thanks girls for all your comments! I still haven't found a setting yet because I haven't enough time to drive out to some stores I like ... they're about an hour away from where I live! Hopefully, I will have it done before the Holidays!

Suzi and shoppa_holique, I'm also worried about the chipping! However, I guess this will be my special occasion ring! I will try and see if I can find a setting that would somewhat protect the stone.

rainrowan: I actually really love that setting, it's simple yet elegant so that it can really show the stone.

ReRe: I also love white gold instead of yellow. I think I'll go for a thin 14k white gold band.

claireZk: Yes, some of my friends have though it was a Saphire! It looks quite similiar. Periwrinkle is also a beautiful color! I think Tanzanite ranges from blues to purples.

It was so easy choosing the stone, now I hope I can find the right setting soon! ;D

Hi! I collect Tanzanites. Yes, they do range in color, but the more the saturation of color, the more valuable the stone (in other words, less purple or voilet, and more blue). Most people prefer a stone in the Medium to dark range because they are known to give off pink flashes. That said, your stone looks really nice, and it looks like medium to me from the pics.

A concern should definitly be the setting of the stone, since it is not a hard stone on the Moh's scale. I find that one of the best settings for a Tanzanite, is a diamond HALO setting. With this setting, the tanzanite is set low into the prongs and protected all the around the stone in case you knock it. Lastly, make sure you have a Jeweler who knows how to set a Tanzanite, and confirms they have set them before. They can break if one doesn't know what they are doing. I had one Jeweler who wouldn't even touch one because he was too afraid to set it.

^SympathyDuet thanks for the very informative post! I never knew much about Tanzanites except that I loved their color!

I think I will definitely follow your advice and look for the diamond halo setting. Im not sure if my local Jewelers are experts on setting this stone, but I'll have to ask! =)

And by the way, I would love to see a picture of your Tazanites if you happen to have some pictures! ;D
