My shoulder bag is starting to hurt - I need an alternative!

If it's the NF's skinny straps that cut into your shoulder, maybe try the Totally. I find it a very comfy bag to carry.

A few years ago I had some lower back pain and went to a chiro. Before we even got started, he randomly picked up my bag to move it and commented that he's guessing my handbag is why I'm there to see him.

Funny, I once asked my dentist to pass my bag so I could grab my phone while we were having a convo and he had to WORK to lift it up. He then told me he's glad he's only my dentist and not my chiropractor.

OP, I also think you should consider a hand held or a cross-over (or a bag with both functions). But mostly, I'd recommend purchasing lighter bags. I remain in awe as to how light my balenciaga work with rh is. Its a huge bag (18" x 12", I think) but manages to be lighter than my Rebecca Minkoff Adore which is a tiny 11" x 9" bag. My Adore is so tiresome to carry after a day of errands (I have considered selling it many times for this reason).

Anyway, a lighter shoulder bag could be a good option for you and save you chiropractor bills in the future :smile1:

i had back pain and tried many shoulder bags and carrying less. still had pain. switched to hand held and now pain free. i carry the h bolide which has a shoulder strap so if i need to be hands free i have that option. i almost never use the shoulder strap. try the hand held. i always felt i was a shoulder bag person but getting rid of that pain has me a total believer.

I am going to heed everyone's advice and buy my first handheld! :faint: Ok. So here's a stupid question ~ How do you manage grocery shopping with a hand held? I mean, fine. You place the bag onto the shopping cart. I have no problem with that but when loading your trunk and transporting the grocery bags? Or, one better. What about when shopping in a mall and you are carrying two shopping bags! On that day I guess it is best to wear a shoulder bag? In any event, I went shopping yesterday and tried on bags that have a long enough strap to go over the shoulder but look great on the crook of the arm.

I don't put my bag in the cart, I keep it on the crook of my left arm and pick up things with my right hand - I have no trouble steering the cart (with both hands) with the bag hanging off my arm.

My husband loads the groceries in the trunk but if I had to do it myself I'd put my bag in the car and then load them.

If I know I'm going to buy a lot of stuff and have to carry it, I switch to a crossbody bag just for the trip.

I've been using mainly handheld bags for almost a year and the only time I've felt inconvenienced was at a cocktail party when I was trying to juggle food, drink, bag and shake hands!

Maybe use a Longchamp, for me it is the best one especially the handheld because it doesn't hurt my shoulders and back and I noticed that whenever I use a shoulder bag, my other shoulder is higher (the one carrying the bag) and gives me more back pain and I always switch back and forth to give my shoulders a rest. Handhelds are the best for me.

I must say my medium BV is the best bag I've bought to date! I usually switch shoulders with bags but this bag is light as a feather! I also have the option of wearing it on the crook of my arm. Great bag!! I just want to replace a bag I am very seriously considering selling with a hand held like everyone suggests. I'm looking at a Ferragamo. If anyone is interested in giving your feedback, I have posted a picture in the Ferragamo thread. Thanks!!!

Hi,
I have really hurt my back by carrying heavy bags. I know that Coach sometimes offers gorgeous and very lightweight bags. You may want to check them out. Good luck!

I have been carrying around my LV Neverfull MM all summer to work, but now it is really starting to hurt my shoulder. I can't switch it to my other shoulder because it's just too awkward. Anyways, I've switched back to my TB backpack and it's helped, but I'm wondering about what else might be out there. Any suggestions? I typically carry a wallet, cell phone, umbrella and a small make-up case.

One of the lightest bags I've owned was the LV Delightful.. and the wide single strap displaces the 'weight' - give something with a wider strap a try. I agree the skinny straps on the NF were tough :( Good luck!

I recommend a crossbody as well. A hand-held gets really tiring to hold after a while, and is very inconvenient while grocery shopping. If you use your arm to tote your hand-held bag while shopping, then the bag keeps hitting the produce bins or other merchandise (or your shopping cart) when you're choosing products to buy.
