I've finally finished my second Coach DIY Project...it took forever because I was fairly selective with finding the right patches for my theme of various Rock genres, bands, musicians, etc. that were popular from the '60's through the '90's.
The assortment includes some major icons of Psychedelic, Rock 'n Roll, Glam Rock, Alternative Rock -- with a little Reggae and New Wave mixed in. Most patches, which I used the gorilla glue on again, adhered nicely. You'll notice a few scratches and buckling patches -- I kept moving some patches even after they had dried, so hardened glue had to be scraped off before a new patch took its place...I got a little careless, but wasn't worried about perfection. What I learned was that it would have been much easier if I had Scotch taped the patches into a pattern in advance, and simply followed that, instead of constantly changing my mind, lol.
The little enamel pins vertically lining the middle of each side, pushed through the leather reasonably well. They never pierced the fabric lining behind it.
I bought this Black, Glovetanned Leather Explorer (Men's List) from the FOS several months ago -- it was only $199! There's a slightly larger one which is about $50 more, I think. I didn't need another carry on, but loved working on this project and WILL use it next time I travel. I'm thinking my next project will be using travel patches from all over the world -- maybe not the most original theme but i haven't yet picked a bag for it.
Sorry to ramble, here are the pics -- the first four are one side of the bag and the next four are the other side.
