The drawstring remains in place at what ever length i decide to keep it at. It does not slip down and neither is it hard to open or close/ loosen or tighten. It is an extremely well made bag. The leather on it is amazing!

The outside pocket does have a magnetic snap closure, so anything in that pocket is secure too! HTH
