I do own pearls, but after learning about pearls through this forum and others, I realized that when I bought them I truly knew nothing at all about pearls. I have a strand of cheap, chalky freshwaters, a pearl station necklace (again, small, chalky freshwaters) and a small pearl and gold pendant (same inexpensive FW).

I went out on a limb and purchased an 18" necklace of undyed akoya pearls from Pearl Paradise, and they are amazing. They are relatively small (7-7.5 mm) and baroque, but are far less blemished than I would have thought and far better matched than I'd expect from baroques. They have a few soft "points" and a wrinkle here and there, but they have character.

I used to think pearls were only for stuffy old women and funerals (sorry, but I did!) until I saw many of the beautiful, beautiful pearls here and learned so much more about them from the experts here. I do hope, someday, to be able to afford Tahitian baroques, but that isn't feasible right now.

And without further ado, pictures from my lousy camera. I tried my best to get as close as possible with the best focus, but they still seem to blur a bit.

Poor, very warm lighting, but it shows the luster better.

Lovely pearls. I too am considering getting a necklace but too scared to take the plunge with all those fakes out there.
Plus I live in UK
I'll have to wait until next month I think - I just bought 3 bags...lol

There are some places with very good reputations out there, and Pearl Paradise is one of them. They say they ship internationally, although it is $35. I am sure there are other places with great reputations that ship internationally, too. I am sure other ladies here would be able to help more when you want to consider a purchase, too.

I saw a strand very similar to mine on ebay, but they were charging what seemed like a ridiculously low price, so I passed. Not that I wanted to pay more! But I wanted to buy them from somewhere where I would know for sure what I was getting.

Gorgeous pearls!

cookie888 you may like to check out the thread here for more info about pearls and places to obtain at reasonable pricing with peace of mind.

Bummer, I can't see the pics. Will have to wait until I get home. Where did you find a coupon? I frequently look for one for PP but can't get one to work. TPO always has a 10% code floating around, and they're easy to find.
