Must-have (but maybe unexpected) items in your handbag

I watched this video awhile back on items every person should carry in their handbag, and discovered some really awesome things that I now find useful (like a handbag light and a portable handbag hook)!



What do you carry that may be unusual or unexpected?

What about a box cutter? Got it! (Tho not always welcome in all places you may go, but very handy.) Disposable toothbrush? Got it! Gum - did she say gum? Got it! What about the Glock (another item not always welcome at certain destinations.) She really left out a lot of handy stuff!

I'm surprised at how much people think is essential. I can't imagine using dry shampoo when I'm out. I used to carry a lot more than I used to, but never once considered dry shampoo.

Most of my purse items are various types of wallets to carry cash, coins, credit cards, ID, insurance cards, rewards cards, and coupons. Sunglasses, lip moisturizer, dental floss, medicine, eye drops are usually in there. My keychain has a flashlight on it.

When I'm going to be out for an extended time I carry a water bottle.

It fits into my wallet. It's a little thicker than a credit card but the same size. Look at all the tools it has!

A taser would be nice. Years ago I carried pepper spray.

A set of collapsible metal straws (I have an active preteen), a small sewing kit (I have an active preteen), and a set of very small screwdrivers (I have an active preteen).

@Venessa84 I use mine for odd things like measuring a basket to see if will fit a shelf at home or height of a vase. Have also used it to measure pant legs.

A hand towel! I started carrying one when I was in Japan for vacation 6 years ago. It's come in handy a couple times since then.

Like some others mentioned, a measuring tape. I have one from IKEA, it's made of paper so it's foldable and doesn't take up any space at all.

I also carry either matches or a lighter, and a safety pin. Just in case.
