Has anybody bought from the Mulberry Pre-Loved section yet? What are your experiences? Have you had to send it back because it wasn’t as good as the pictures showed? Did it have a bad smell?

I did. I bought a darwin antony. It was ok, but only ok. There were pen marks in it (my personal bete noir) and it was quite tired. I think they’d changed the turn lock but other than that not much in the way of restoration. The corners were very dry. I didn’t think it was worth the high price and returned it. Wouldn’t bother again, because the pictures looked better than the bag I received.

Thanks for the response. I have been scrutinising the pictures they put up and I feel not enough information is given. Nor do I feel they’ve done a good restoration, it does look like bare minimum work.

Agreed.

I love that you can rotate the bags 360, but would much prefer close up pics of any imperfections. If you don’t get that info up front you inevitably get disappointed as the flaws reveal themselves.

What I find a little disconcerting about the Mulberry Preloved section is how many time they get the name wrong. At the moment there's an Alana there billed as an Emmy, for example, plus a good few more that I can't remember off the top of my head. It doesn't instil confidence when they can't get the names of their own products right.

Also the pricing is very off. This is the Alana I mentioned billed as an Emmy - sold for £950! The condition isn't great either. Meanwhile, I've just bought one from a lovely seller on eBay that's in perfect condition, complete with dustbag/original retail tags/carecard for £84. It was honestly like getting a brand new Darwin Mulberry.

They claim that they restore the preloved bags they sell - if that's the case, why are so many listed as having so much damage/scratched and tarnished hardware/marks etc?

Personally I'll stick to reputable resellers such as NPN, or eBay (with authentication as needed).

I have been thinking about it. Have never bought preloved before and worry about fakes. The Regent Street branch has some preloved bags on display. Condition is important for me.

last week they had an east west Bays wrongly marked as a Ledbury on the same page as a load of correctly identified east west bays. It’s very weird & £950 for an Alana is barking, they were half that price brand new.

It doesn't inspire confidence when they can't even get the names right. What is going on with the pricing??? I bought my Jemma Rio for half the price of my Elgin. Out of interest I asked how much I would get for the Elgin if I traded it in a lot less! But on the preloved site they sell it for five times the price. Guess what I bought it new for less. Mind boggling.

The pricing makes no sense to me at all, my opinion is always that price should reflect condition/ desirability/rarity but Mulberry really seem to throw prices at the wall & see what sticks. The bags seem to be selling very well considering though, I guess like any company they’ll take a profit where they can make it.

Wow I wonder what condition it is in at that price.

I guess people feel safer buying preloved from Mulberry directly, particularly if they're not aware of authentication services or aren't confident enough to authenticate bags themselves. However given the confusion re bag names/leathers etc I wouldn't be particularly confident buying direct.

I'll never forget, years ago on here, the sorry tale of a Ledbury and a Smithfield being sent to Mulberry for authentication. The Smithfield was declared genuine, the Ledbury fake. Little Ledbury was destroyed by Mulberry and Smithfield returned to her owner. But it transpired that Ledbury was in fact the genuine bag, and Smithfield the fake! I know that Mulberry hasn't offered an authentication service for years but still, it doesn't inspire confidence does it.

Oh for the days of Mulberrymad and LHB! At least we have NPN still. I'm a dab hand at authenticating the older Darwin/NVT bags myself, never bought a dud yet, so there's that too. I think I'd trust my judgment on those bags over Mulberry's, given they don't even seem to know the names of the bags let alone anything else!

Yes buying from Mulberry direct is about confidence for me. However I noticed some sites like Vestiare have authentication services too.
What a sorry tale , did she get compensation for the Ledbury?
