Thank you for this! I figured just as much that it’s not easy to wear with a child. I do love the style however, and would hope I do have a chance to wear it when Im not going out with the child. What bag did you have instead when your son was younger?
Glad you made this decision! If you love it you’ll definitely have chances to wear it ;)

Hi everyone,

This question is for the moms with Chanel Boys or moms that sold their Chanel Boys for a different style.

I’ve recently racked up quite a collection of Chanel Boys during quarantine but I am starting a family soon and considering selling the boys because it is very structured, bulky and prone to corner wear. I’m constantly being mindful of how I hold the bag, how I open it, how I wear it etc. With a baby in tow, I might not be as mindful.

If you are currently a mom with a newborn and/or young child(ren) how do you cope with your Chanel Boy?? Does it get in the way when you hold your child? Someone in a Chanel FB group I’m in mentioned that the chain digs into her child’s chest :wtf: If you sold your Chanel boy, why? What other bags would you consider instead of the boy? I prefer the boy over the classic because of the crossbody/double strap feature and I think the Jumbo is too big but maybe it’s perfect if you have children?

Thanks in advance!

Honestly, you are best keeping the boy and get yourself a backpack. I recommend the Burberry nylon one because with kids, nylon is the best and that bag is big enough and lightweight enough and still stylish. The baby stage is short lived- so you do go back to being a “grown up” again and using your “grown up bag.”

I sold both my boy bags (small size and old medium size) not long after having my baby. I used to use the small one quite a lot before but I fell out of love with it and found it too boxy. I almost always use a mini now or my double wallet on chain which has the phone slot in the middle. I also have 4 Deauville totes which I rotate to carry baby stuff but I hang this on the pushchair.

Maybe keep one boy bag but sell the others? I love the look of the boy bag but find the mini or reissue most comfortable when I’m with the kids. Probably not worth it to get a caviar mini preloved right now so maybe consider a mini reissue?

i have a 6 yo and 3 yo .. I do have a boy bag and other styles as well.. I started my CC collection when I had my first born. I don't really wear my nice bags unless I'm not with the kids, especially when the kids were younger because you never know what their needs are at random times (i.e., they might want you to carry them or crying like crazy and you just need to hold them to take them somewhere to comfort them..lol.. so my bag is the last thing I want to be concerned about.. etc..).. I used a lot of bags where I could be carefree and not think about my bag. Nylon is a good fabric for bags when having kids because you need to carry things like their bottle/water bottle - which may spill everywhere accidentally, diapers (sometimes dirty because you can't find a trash can), food (might spill everywhere), etc.. even after you stop using a diaper bag.. I use bags like longchamp, diaper bag, etc. As the kids got older.. i wear other brands with them.. like my gucci, LV.. and givenchy.. etc when i'm with them..

So, keep your boy bags if you love them because once they get older, you'll start wearing them again. I'm starting to wear my bags while I'm with them. They know how much I love my bags so they are sometimes careful with them. Minis are nice but yes.. the price for the caviar ones are too overprice and I wouldn't spend that money ... I do wish I bought a caviar mini instead of my lambskin back in the days lol (that was my intention to buy a caviar but they only had the lambskin in the color i wanted). WOCs are nice too and come in handy.. if you're going to get a WOC and want to wear with kids.. then get black so you're not too worry about color transfer and etc.. GL and congrats!!!

I think when he was a baby in a pram, I just used the nappy/diaper bag and put my wallet and phone in a compartment in there. I’d just bought a Chanel jumbo and a WOC before he was born but I used neither of them for a while. When he was about 2 or 3 and I was doing a lot of running around after him, I bought a Gucci camera bag. I got so much use out of it but I fell out of love with Gucci and sold it. I’ve still not replaced it with anything similar but I really need something that I can use in the same way. I was hoping I could find a seasonal Chanel bag that would fit the bill but they all seem a bit too dressy. I’ve actually been using my WOC a lot which I never used to use. I was just about to sell it but then I had nothing else suitable when I sold my Gucci and now I use it all the time. It seems to work for going on walks, the school run and to parks with my son. Looks casual but chic. It’s Chanel but very understated as it’s black with silver hardware.

Would you consider the boy WOC?
So sorry for the late reply. Notifications from purseforum always end up in my junk folder. I LOVE the boy bag but for some reason not feeling the boy WOC. I think the smaller hardware looks odd. Just something about the shrunken dimensions of everything looks off to me. who knows. I never liked the boy bag when it came out but suddenly started loving it earlier this year out of nowhere. I prefer the chevron design though. What are your thoughts on the boy WOC?

Thank you for your input & so sorry about the delayed response. I find that Burberry is getting quite expensive. I have not yet checked the prices of their nylon items but Prada's nylon bags are through the roof, cost wise. If Burberry is similar to Prada in terms of cost for their nylon items then it's not worth it for me. But I do agree with having a backpack when I have a kid and keeping the Boys

Do you find the Deauville's quite heavy? I've seen pictures of the Deauville and noticed how wide the opening is. Do you find it a security issue?- items falling out, risked being stolen?

Lovely idea. I just might! I love the CC logo but if I'm using it as a casual every day bag the less conspicuous the better.

Yes I do find them quite heavy so I don't really carry them, I hang them on the pushchair generally. I only use them for baby things so I am never worried about security. If I do have something valuable I can usually tuck it in the little zip pocket in the Deauville. Nothing has ever fallen out as I use Samorga inserts which help keep the bag structure and they have little pockets for everything to go into. Its a really practical baby bag in my opinion however my baby is now 15 months and I don't need to carry as much when I'm out and about but from birth to around 12 months I used them a lot. They are especially handy for travel.

Thank you so much for your advice! I guess I'm thinking too much because of Chanel's crazy price increase. I heard they will be having another one next month or so. I want to make sure I buy the bags I want (and will use in the future) now or I will regret it when the prices go up and it doesn't make sense anymore. I purchased my first Chanel, a classic flap, two years ago at the store. And now it is $2,000 more. All in the span of just two years! So ridiculous. But great advice about Longchamp. I do not think Burberry is worth it for a nylon bag but Longchamp is a good alternative. I'm still thinking about which style WOC to get. I have tons of black bags already...

Have you taken a look at the Chanel Camera bags at all? I have a white Chanel camera bag that i've used somewhat daily (with lighter colour outfits, of course) but now that it is getting colder, I've switched over to my YSL mini Lou. I know the gucci camera bag is huge, so the Chanel and YSL are smaller and would fit roughly the same items as a Chanel WOC. But I'm going to jump on the Chanel WOC bandwagon, it seems like that is the consensus here and Nylon backpacks/bags

I did not know they had zip compartments and of course, Samorga! Genius idea for organization with a little one in tow. When I initially read your comment, I legit thought you throw a bunch of things in there and I imagined myself with one scrambling to find stuff but having the samorga makes things so much easier. I will look into the Deauville, thank you! One other thing- do you live in a warmer climate? I'm in a Chanel group on Facebook & I recall that there was a discussion about wearing the Deauville when it's snowing. I live in Canada so I'm wondering what your thoughts are about it.
