Hi all,

I have a Trendy CC which I really love but only take out for special occasions or if I’m shopping in nice places, due to the lambskin. It feels really special and luxurious but it’s a high maintenance bag and not for every day use. I love top handle bags but not a fan of the coco handle or business affinity, so I definitely want one top handle Chanel in my collection.

I recently sold my woc (which I used daily for errands and days out with my young son) because it didn’t hold enough. In a way, I regret it as I don’t have anything to replace it with that can work as a casual carefree daily bag, as I recently downsized my handbag collection and now only have 3 bags (all Chanel). I can’t just buy Chanel bags like I used to, I have to sell before I can buy! My question is, should I sell my trendy CC and buy a black caviar mini with top handle so I can use it casually? Or should I keep my trendy and save for the mini? (it will take me a while!)? Can the top handle mini be worn casually or is more dressy, would you say? TIA!

I don't own the two bags you are referring to. So my opinion is purely based on aesthetics.
Mini with top handle = effortless chic( or more youthful chic)
Trendy CC = grandma chic(or more mature chic)
The mini top handle could fulfill both the casual and dressy needs in a nonchalant way.
The T CC is dressier by default, but still could achieve both the casual and dressy needs, but leaning towards a more dressy casual.

I don't own them, either

But I love the aesthetics of the mini with the top handle

I am not the biggest fan of the trendy CC, because I really do not like the big metal plaque on the top of the bag

Agree with above.

I do not like the Trendy CC. I think it looks very ugly on the side (sorry, do not mean offense, but I just cannot stand how it looks from the side), the metal plaque will tarnish over time, and lambskin is a no for me (because I do not baby my bags).

Mini top-handle is cute! Just make sure it fits what you want to carry around! And if you like wearing it crossbody, make sure the strap length is to your liking!

If you are not ready yet to sell your Trendy CC, I'd say wait and save for the mini. Don't want to get seller remorse. So if you're not in a hurry, give yourself more time to save money and think about it!

Sounds like you don’t prefer lambskin. If you are questioning whether or not to keep the Trendy CC, I would definitely consider a mini if you’re able to get your hands on one that you love.

I think the top-handle mini can be either casual or dressy.

Agreed with the Trendy being more dressy and ‘mature’. So I’d vote for the mini top handle in caviar, or even lambskin. I think lambskin is so underrated. I don’t think it’s as high maintenance as people perceive it to be

The Trendy CC is mature & dressier but I'd probably vote to keep that and save for something else. The Trendy CC can be that lifelong, ultra special bag that fits you as you age. The mini with the top handle is a trendy look, plus it's seasonal right now, so it'll probably be gone before you could save enough for it. I'm not a huge fan of the coco handle either, but it would definitely fill that space you need - caviar, more space than the woc, crossbody/easy to wear, and so many colors to choose from. I think the trendy+coco handle compliment each other well.

Many thanks for your comments. They have been really helpful. It’s interesting that many of you regard the Trendy as a more mature bag. I follow a few fashionistas on Instagram who are ultra trendy and carry these bags. I can see how it could look mature, and prim and proper, but I suppose it depends upon how you style it. I think I will hang on to the trendy for now and see what is coming up in future collections, as apparently the mini with top handle is only available in lambskin this coming season. I have never been a fan of the coco handle (not keen on the shape or the feet and I’ve heard it wears badly on the corners) but I’m definitely going to check it out again.

I think you should hold on to the Trendy. I bought and sold mine, regretted it and added it back to my collection. To me, it’s a classic. Yes, it’s a bit delicate because of the lambskin, but that’s also what makes it so beautiful. I disagree that it’s an “old” looking style, it’s all about how you style it, as with any bag. Just look at the Hermes Kelly! The Trendy is Chanel’s version of the Kelly - a timeless style.

Thank you for your comment. I agree it’s not old-looking at all. I actually think the classic flap with gold hardware (which I also own) and the Coco Handle look more mature. I think the CH has a bit of a prim and proper old lady’s handbag look due to its shape and the feet. However, I still want to check it out again because it’s how you style it, as you said. I get a lot of inspiration from Instagram!

The issue for me is the lambskin on the trendy. People say lambskin is not as scary as people think but I actually disagree, having owned a lot of lambskin bags over the years! It definitely wears poorly compared to caviar. The only item I had that was lambskin that wore well was a woc. I think that was due to its small size.

I’m going to hang on to my trendy for a few more months until I decide what to do. I also have a Chanel 19 so maybe that is the bag that should go first!

I really like the business affinity because it can hold a bit of items and is in caviar. Maybe the business affinity is also a good options to run errands with your little son

I have pretty much have all the Chanel bag styles (including the Trendy CC, several minis and WOCs) and agree that the WOCs don’t hold enough and I rarely carry it. Honestly for me the mini doesn’t carry much more than the WOC and I mainly use minis for evenings out (not being able to carry sunglasses is a big no-no for me during the day). I used to bring my classic flaps out but find they’re too formal - I actually think the classic flaps are more formal than the Trendy CC. But of all the bags, the most used and most carefree is the Chanel 19. I know it’s not to everyones taste but coming from a mom of three kids, it’s by far the easiest to use with children.

Yeah I agree. I think the coco handle is the most mature-looking Chanel bag recently. Chanel trendy CC actually reminds me of the Pochette Metis - it can look modern when styled. CF is the most ladylike/formal.

I completely agree with the above two comments. The classic flap is way too formal for me even though I’ve seen it styled very casually and it looks amazing. Sometimes I think about selling it because it’s not getting as much use as I’d like. I like to look a bit edgy and different and I feel that the Trendy really works for that look. I think it’s the Chanel plate. that’s why I’m reluctant to sell but just wish it wasn’t delicate.

yes, the CH is by far the most mature looking bag in my opinion, although it is lovely.

I also agree the 19 is the most casual and great for being out with kids. I just need something that is a bit smaller and less showy for when I need to carry light - parks, days outdoors.

Yes, I’ve been considering this but I’m just not a huge fan. I don’t mean to offend anyone but I felt it seemed cheaply made. I bought and returned a grey one some years ago for that reason. I wonder what the UK price is for the BA now?

not a fan of the trendy cc, too many cons for me, but if you like it still then just keep it. ill never sell any of my bags, i'd say that they are art pieces, people collect all sorts of useless things, matches, pepsi cans, action figures, u name it. nothing wrong with collecting chanel bags, saids who that we can't? save up the fund for another one, don't rush into things, wait until the perfect one comes up, it'll finally come.
