A question just for fun: I have a milestone birthday next year, and am already thinking about what kind of thing I might gift to myself šŸ˜‰. What jewelry item would you buy yourself for a very significant birthday? I already have a collection of basics (diamond studs, eternity band, everyday necklace) that I’m happy with - I’m looking for something more dramatic or fun. But I’d love to hear what you all would choose!

The most versatile piece of jewellery I can think of are earrings; so I’d do a dramatic, bold pair of long earrings. Something high jewellery inspired, that stands out. I’d likely do all diamond, so it goes with everything, but there’s an argument to be made for coloured stones or pearls as well.

I would choose something you have always wanted but never got around to or let yourself have before. That may mean finding something discontinued in the pre-loved or antique market rather than new. That way, it's more of a life-statement piece rather than just a 'next' piece.

As others have pointed out, it's also a case of knowing what category of jewellery. I like rings, but I have become more interested in necklaces lately.

Personally, I'd prefer something I can wear for everyday rather than only special occasions so it would have to be fairly robust. I know that may be an unpopular opinion though.

If I were buying milestone or otherwise celebratory jewelry, I would want it to be something I wore everyday or at least very often. For me, that would be a ring or bracelet.

It would provably be a piece that always felt too frivolous and indulgent to buy under normal circumstances too. I actually have a milestone birthday coming up next autumn and if I had to choose now, my shortlist would consist of a diamond Boochier Slinkee bangle, an Anthony Lent ring, or something bespoke from my favorite indie designer.

Perhaps technically not a piece of jewelry, but I celebrated a recent
milestone birthday by buying my dream watch, a Rolex. I wanted something I could wear every day vs. just for special occasions, and I also wanted something I could look down at and see throughout the day while I work, etc. I also wanted it to be a bit different/unique/fun, so I made sure to get a unique dial in a color/stone with personal significance to me.

Of course, everyone’s personal preference will differ, but this was the perfect milestone gift for me and I’ve worn it almost every day since getting it 18 months ago … I work from home and still love to wear it regardless of whether or not I’m going anywhere or even changing out of my loungewear! šŸ˜‚

Good luck deciding! šŸ’™

Like many other posters here, I got special pieces that I could use every day - an automatic watch, a Tiffany Hardwear bracelet, a Leen Heyne ring.

If I ever get past investing in things I can wear everyday and actually have the funds for ā€œspecial occasion onlyā€ jewelry, on my wish list is a Tiffany Bone cuff and Tiffany mesh scarf - I love Elsa Peretti’s designs!

Like others, I bought something I could look at and wear everyday. For my 30th I got a RG small Love and for my 35th I got 2 small RG JUCs. I wear these 3 bracelets every day. I’m already planning my 40th birthday present!! Most likely a bracelet from VCA….

Now, it is the JUC. Before, it was the Cartier tank. I wear that watch every day and love it more each day. I think I’ll be buying the JUC for a massive milestone in a couple days 😳 and I expect my feeling will be the same.

I’m just stuck for which metal colour…

I think what matters here is what makes your heart sing.
