Mikimoto Pearl Necklace Grading

Hi! I just returned from Vegas and visited the Mikimoto store at the Wynn hotel. I've been considering a pearl necklace and took the opportunity to try on some beautiful pearl strands - looking for a classic 16", 7.5-8 mm pearls. I ended up with the A grade as the overtone seemed to look better on me. I did try on the $50k AAA strand - gorgeous!! - but out of my price range for sure. I didn't see a noticeable difference in the A+ so went with A to stay within my budget. I also went with the yellow gold clasp and M. I'm excited to have this piece in my collection! And am considering to add the matching pearl studs. They are holding the studs for me which means I will cave and order them - LOL. Service was great as well!

Congratulations to you! Your pearls are gorgeous. I don't know if you read my earlier post (it was posted a long time ago), but I agree with you in that there is not much difference from A to A+. Your pearls are stunning... great choice! Mikimoto pearls are just fabulous and yours glow! I love the overtone on your pearls as well!

I vote yes to getting the matching pearl studs! Cave and go for it! You will love them.
I have matching studs for each of my strands and love them.
Worn alone without the strand, pearl studs are pure, simple elegance to me.

By the way, in case this is your first Mikimoto strand...
As FYI, when you restring your pearls and if you don't live in Vegas or near a Mikimoto boutique, you can just mail them to Mikimoto NYC Repairs, and they will service it for you and mail them back. Mikimoto will clean your pearls (they soak them in a gentle solution), and then they restring them to perfection.

Yowza! Totally gorgeous! If you can afford the studs, go for it. Pearl studs are so classic. You can't go wrong with them.

Thank you! I happened across this thread AFTER my trip and am kicking myself for not checking purse forum before I took the plunge. I was so excited to see the store and got caught up in the shopping experience! I really appreciate your thoughtful responses about pearls and Mikimoto. Yes this is my first real pearl strand of any kind. So good to know about restringing. I can tell they have wonderful service!

I caved - emailed the store back to see if they still have the studs on hold.
