I loved the dress. Thought it looked great on her too. It was very distinctive, individualistic. A needed break from the Stepford Political Wives Look, you know the posh-fitted-suit-and-pearls look that has been around since, oh, Nancy Reagan. Although maybe I'm just old and have watched too many presidential doings in which all the women have the pearls-and-pillbox-hat thing going on.

I personally liked the dress. I don't think their was anything wrong in the choice of colors. Black for mourning, Red for Victory I suppose. At the same time it was evening conservative. If that makes any sense.

It looked kind of a combo celebration-casual to me. Looking at it , it kind of grew on me.
It was certainly no Marie Antoinette moment.

I am sure that dress was not over the top cost-wise.

ITA. It grew on me as well. I can't say I would have picked it out for her, but I am appreciative that she broke with tradition (ie monochrome suit, pearls, diamond studs, etc).

Narciso Rodriguez was the designer for this red and black dress

Yep!

that dress on the model looks HOT...maybe michelle isnt stick straight and shapeless which is why people didnt think it looked great on her. Shes very fashionable, I think she looked great and so did the children. They are in mourning afterall.
