I only recommend boutique MK bags. Check the clearance section....Outlet bags do not hold their value and are made much more cheaply. Always buy will selling in mind. You can get a good deal, just have to buy from a trusted SA or third party. The SA may not have known the difference, either way good thing you noticed.
Thanks, I agree. I just wish the SAs didn't tell people that they're getting the exact same quality. I've never been strictly an outlet buyer but I play dumb just to see what they'll say.

You are welcome. The more you know about the product the better. Perhaps you can let management know. You can also email the corporate office. That is an effective way to give feedback.

I know this thread is old and there has been much discussion on this subject but I had to share my experience at the outlet today. I really have never shopped MK before and never visit the boutiques because the smell of the perfume is annoying to me. I usually buy Kate Spade and in the past it was Coach (Reed Krakoff days) but recently gained an interest in MK after seeing the Selma. Anyways, I wanted to see if the outlet had any Hamiltons (not the outlet version but the ones very similar to the boutique version that is now deeply discounted on MK.com) and they had five colors! I Just to see what they would say, I asked the sales associate what the styling differences were and they told me that there was no difference. As I pulled all the tissue paper out of the bag, it was clear that the pockets did not have leather trim, no key fob, and seemed to have fewer interior pockets. Now, I get that the bag looked very similar, if not the same on the outside, but why lie and say they are no different from the boutique? Do the SAs not know or do they think people don't know/won't care about the difference? Also, the price at the outlet wasn't really that great, especially compared to the promo the boutique has going with the extra 25% off sale.

The outlet did have some things that I liked, so I bought a small jet set wallet but I was disappointed with my experience overall. I will probably buy from MK.com for the most part and wait for a sale. Just my two cents.

I'm sorry you had this experience. Personally, I think there's a large turnover in SA's at the outlets which may account for their lack of knowledge. Outlet bags are different from the Boutique bags, interior as well as exterior. I have a few Outlet bags but not many. I don't have a problem buying from the outlets but I examine the bags carefully. I don't baby my outlet bags either. Usually, if I buy a bag from the outlets, it's usually an overrun of the Boutique bags that find their way there. I have a Continental wallet my son gave me last year that came from the outlet, have used it continuously, & it's held up very well. I don't change out wallets like I do purses.

I have found that outlets don't have the great deals that they did years ago & often find a bag I like better at MK Boutique, MK online, or dept store on sale for a better price than the outlets. I usually take what a SA says with a grain of salt. Just because someone works at a store or outlet does not make them an expert on the brand.

Thank you! I have never really shopped my local MK outlet as the SAs seem to jump on you as soon as you walk in. I used to work retail so I'm sure turnover is high and lots of new employees, especially this time of year.
