In the states, Asian women and (typically) nerdy white men couples are very common. I think it has to do with some sort of strange historical fetish or whatever. Black men and white women is also fairly common and although not necessarily accepted, it's not shocking. Other combinations of white and lighter "colored" ppl is generally more accepted. However, the combination of white or Asian man and black women (or just darker skin like Indian), for whatever reason, is not common and especially frowned upon in America. I'm black and for different personal and environmental reasons, I've always dated white dude and let me tell you the stares I've gotten. And I love in California, in the bay area near SF, one of the more liberal places in the US. I also go to a big liberal and Ivy school. Even friends make comments. It very strange and unfortunate. I think it's because black women tend to be either invisible, hypersexual jezebels (a la Pam Grier), or desexualized. You don't want to date neither one of them. It's really a shame.
The funny thing is every dude I either date/get frisky with always comments how I'm their first black lady friend. I don't think quite a number of ppl aren't necessarily against it per say, they've just never considered it because it's not the norm. but of course there are also incredible ignorant peeps as well...

Lucky gal, have you had an encounter with the man in your neighbourhood? The rare tweets about him out and about in Hackney more often than not mention that he's a lovely fella.

I think a lot of actors think or are told they will alienate fans so they just toe the line.
If they have the opportunity, we will see them on the red carpet as we saw him with his ex girlfriend Leasie. He's not the kind of man who will "hide" his black girlfriend.
I don't understand the reaction of some girls about him dating a black, it's probably a question of culture. Michael lives in London one of the most multicultural city of Europe with Paris. I'm not sure people would talk a lot about this here.

When he shot Shame he was already dating Zoe I assume (until last september)? Did he already have an eye on Nicole or their relationship started during the promotion tour?

I don't think there was really an overlap between Zoe-end of relationship and Nicole-beginning of. The former ended sometime mid-summer 2011 (with a get-together at TIFF), and the latter probably started sporadically during the Shame promotional tour, most likely during AFI and/or Paris

I think that in terms of appearances, it has a lot to do with where you live. If you live in an area where BW/WM sightings are common then you're probably more likely to get involved in that type of relationship as you're less likely to be looked upon with...well, with whatever people who look upon such couples look upon them with (fear, confusion, hatred, ignorance, you name it).
In the L.A. area where I live, you do see it but it's definitely not nearly as common as White men/Asian women couplings. America is far too race obsessed (and still very racially divided/segregated). And therefor, American men and women are far too race conscious. Don't let the fact that we have Black president fool you. A European man is far more likely to date a Black woman (with ease, mind you) than an American man. The ingrained racism that far too many Americans grow up with being just one reason.
And the sad fact of the matter is, Black women are the invisible women in this country. I'm not going to go any further with that because it's a long, sad, intricate topic.

You think that Zoe joined Michael in Toronto in September as a friend?
It seems that Michael and Nicole relationship started before Paris in November, they already looked quite close.
According to a staff member, Michael asked them to pay Nicole's flight to Paris, they shared the same room and stayed an extra week there.

It's actually comical and a bit sad. Before joining this board, I used to lurk around other Fassbender boards and some of the arguments about his dating preferences were both comical and sad. I would think if you are a fan of someone, you would be happy if they've found someone to make them happy, regardless of that person's race.Oh, do people out there talk as nauseum about his personal preferences? I was actually making a little dig at those who refused to even think about him hooking up with a chick, and calling those sightings deluded products of imagination. These lovely people need to loosen up, Fassbender style
Artica: yowza, don't even know what to say. I always wonder why people are hellbent on believing something they've no real deep knowledge off (either positions; for/against... and that doubles up for gossip writers). Cautious skepticism when in doubt, anyone?
I happen to know the staff member who disclosed this little gossipy story all over the web, he/she shouldn't have done it in the first place, he/she should have kept his/her mouth shut since this was very very private stuff and he/she signed a non-disclosure agreement about the whole event but everyone makes mistakes I guess. There's a lot more about this story (there's always two sides to a story ) but I would never disclose something like that on the web (don't even ask). Everyone should be entitled to some privacy, famous or not.
