My husband's ring: http://www.titaniumera.com/catalog/detail?cid=792&pid=852

His has a satin finish with no border on the edges (shaped like this, but with the carving in the first ring), and is in 18karat gold inlay, which they don't use much anymore since the gold is so soft. He's had it now for almost 10 years, and aside from some slight scratches on the gold, and the finish looking a bit more polished, it's held up beautifully. He wanted titanium because 1)it's more unusual than gold and platinum and 2) it holds up so well. Yes, it can be a problem in emergency situations, but his rational was that if he's in a situation that the hardest aircraft-grade titanium is getting damaged, he probably has bigger problems than getting the ring off his finger.

This is exactly how my DH's ring looks like except that his is platinum and 18k YG. The carving is pretty much the same. He really liked it since it was different than most standard bands plus he wanted the two toned look. The only problem is that if there is an emergency and he can't take it off (or it needs to get sized again) they will have to cut it because of the way the gold is inlayed into the band. I told him not to lose or gain any weight, lol. :p

Honestly, with men, it is different than woman. After reading everyone's posts, I realized that my DH is not weird. He is afraid to wear it a lot of the times due to his job and amount of exercise/sports he does. So he wears it, but not all the time. In the beginning you think he will wear it 24/7, but in reality, I don't know any man who does that. So get what he likes and feels comfortable on his finger ;)

The problem with tungsten is that if you have a medical emergency and they need to cut it off, you can't - the only way to get it off your finger is to slide it off.
My fiance and I are going to get platinum - it's more expensive but it's durable and won't turn yellowy like white gold does. Also, no scratching.

That's really interesting that you gals say that. One of my good friends in school RAVES about his tungsten ring, and that he got it BECAUSE of the fact that if he got in an accident and had a platinum ring, they cannot cut through that but with the tungsten you can. I haven't looked into them much at all but from what I've seen, tungsten does look very durable and manly.

This is my DH's exact ring. He wanted titanium because...and I quote:
"what if we get stuck on the undersea mining platform? It can SAVE OUR LIVES!"

lol.

That said: he never wears it.

Omg! My bf said the same thing! I forget whether it was titanium or tungsten. It was something more.... "you mean if we are stuck under water I can use my ring to keep the door open and save our lives?" me:"I can barely get you in a pool, what makes you think I can get you under water!" Haha

We haven't picked his out yet though and I think he wants a 5mm white gold with smooth tapered edges and a satin finish center. Maybe milligran lines? Our jeweler is going to bring in the matching bands to my ering too just in case he likes those or wants to see in person.

You can cut tungsten off.

"Can a Tungsten ring be cut off?
Yes! In any situation where there might be a medical necessity to cut off or remove a tungsten ring--for instance excessive weight gain, hand injury, etc.--removing a tungsten ring doesn’t pose much more of a challenge than cutting through a gold or platinum wedding band. In our own jewelry shop, as in many other jewelry shops, we have a cutting tool designed for cutting titanium and tungsten wedding bands. In addition, tungsten bands can be fractured into pieces using vise-grip pliers. When we contacted our local hospital emergency room and asked if they were equipped to remove tungsten wedding bands in an emergency, they told us that most hospital emergency rooms are prepared to handle almost anything, and assured us that it would be no problem for them.
During our 35+ years of jewelry repair experience, we've only seen a dozen or so rings that have been cut off in hospital emergency rooms, and in most of those cases the rings had been bent out-of-round and were putting painful pressure on the finger. Tungsten rings will not crush or bend out-of-round, so if you shut your hand in a car door or drop a heavy object on it, a tungsten wedding band is likely to fracture into several pieces and fall off your finger freely. Nonetheless, check with your local jeweler or medical facility if you have concerns."

And platinum will scratch - but the good thing about platinum is there is no loss of metal, it just gets displaced. You can take it to a jeweler to have the scratches polished out.

My DH has tungsten and loves it. He was looking at titanium but it was too lightweight - he liked a heavier ring.

My husband has a plain white band and a really nice princess diamond channel set band. But he works with heavy equipment/construction, so it's really dangerous for him to wear it most of the time. Several years back he surprised me by having an infinity symbol tattooed on his ring finger. It's sweet, but I still like seeing the diamond band best. I'm such a sucker for bling.

How can a ring save you in an emergency??? LOL I'm so confused. I bought my DF a promise ring from Tiffany that he wears on his right hand and plans on switching to his left when we get married :D

The pain in the butt thing is that it's wg, so it needs to be replated every so often, but thankfully the service is free :smile1: 1st pic taken right after I bought the ring. 2nd pic taken after getting it replated after only 5 months of wear!

I'm considering getting him a Tungsten or Titanium one for travel. I've heard too many stories about men losing their rings in the ocean!

Kohl - haha it's from the movie "the abyss" I think. Where the guy holds open the door for him and because his ring held it open it saved his life haha.

I really like the ring you got for your df! Is it very thick? The ones we have seen were pretty thick to accommodate the diamond and was too bulky for my bf. I like the design of yours though.

LOL - of course it's from a movie! Thanks! I really like the design of this ring too. I like how the lucida diamond (11 pts) is noticeable but isn't too big and the brushed metal makes it not too shiny (my guy has something against shiny looking things. I guess he thinks it looks too blingy). Also, the ring isn't very thick at all. We put shot beads in because the ring was getting loose on him and it fell off one day and rolled underneath the car (!). The beads ended up being so big that even I could wear it on my right hand middle finger. I wore it around for a few hours and it felt really comfortable haha. Of course we got the shot beads resized so he can wear it again ;) but I almost never gave it back. . .
