Hi all, I can’t make my mind up so need your help please.

I want to purchase my first Bottega bag which I intend to use every day (through the British weather, public transport, work, errands etc). It would need to be capacious; both the medium Jodie and the large Hop fit the bill in terms of space.

I just don’t know which one to get - the medium Jodie in black or the large Hop in Fondant.

My thoughts so far - I’m tall so the large Hop doesn’t look silly on me, if anything the Medium Jodie looks a *bit* small or like a medium sized bag on me. There’s also something really luxe about the lambskin but the calfskin on the Hop would be more durable? Are any of these IT/trendy bags? Would the medium Jodie look better in the Fondant which is now available on 24S, theDoubleF, Farfetch, just not through Bottega. Is it worth paying the full price for the black Jodie to get the Certificate of Craft, as the large Hop which does not come with the lifetime warranty can be bought through promotions, so some saving to be made there as the prices are quite dear.

Sorry about my ramblings! TLDR- Which would you choose and why?

Does anyone own both and can let me know the pros and cons?

TIA :)

I have the small hop and the small (largest size) Jodie. I haven’t used either extensively yet, but here are a few thoughts. I can fit both on my shoulder but the hop is more comfortable there because it is flat against my body. They appear about the same size, but the Jodie would fit a lot more inside. I like that the hop doesn’t have a zipper (no worrying about wear and tear along side it) but you can’t tell it’s open and it’s very secure. The hop feels a lot stiffer and the Jodie is super soft.

Ah great. Which one do you like better? The hops such an androgynous, effortless shape…but there’s something special about the Jodie, particularly in the larger sizes. I’m eyeing the medium Jodie which is larger than the small Jodie - it’s not readily available and has been sold out on the website for ages. It’s a bit wider than the small Jodie and therefore slouches better. A BV SA sent me a video which I’ve used to screenshot the different in size. Medium Jodie in black and Small Jodie in Fondant.

Hop for sure if you’re worried about durability. Since it’s calfskin it will hold up way better. I also think the shape of the hop is more current whereas the Jodie is beginning to become a bit dated

First bottega?it should be ANDIAMO small and i would suggest you to buy a green one,it’s just so iconic.it got a lifetime guarantee and yet it’s one of the best bottega bags of all time.

Andiamo small is lovely but I have little to no use for small bags at the moment so purchasing it would be like throwing away a couple of thousand ££ :)

I have the large Hop and I'm not tall so it's probably a bit ridiculous on me but I wanted another bag that I could use for travel with my laptop and a change of clothes. (I also have the small Hop but definitely won't fit a laptop).

I'd say the large is big for what I would consider an "everyday" bag so I guess it depends on how you plan to use it and what you plan to carry.

I prefer the shape of Hop over jodie, seems more modern. But these are the things to consider:

- do you want zipper or not (advantages to both)
- do you prefer slouchier look
- are you concerned about how corners will look over time (this is my only real concern)

Are you able to go try both on? If not, is it possible for your BV SA to send p8cs or video of the jodie next to the Hop? I tried to compare the dimensions online but I don't think they're accurate so I took photo of my large hop so you can see true dimensions. Hope this helps.

Both are beautiful, but I thought hard about your question and think if I could only have one I would choose Hop.

Hi, thanks so much for this.

To answer some of your questions, the amount of stuff I need to lug around every day would fit in the medium Jodie and in the large Hop (with some space to spare). I would image that the design if the large Hop is such that if you continue to fill it vertically, it wouldn’t rest well against your body with is closure so high up. For me, the drop of the Jodie increases the more you stuff you put in which makes it slouch, so it looks like it would be comfortable wearing under thick winter coats as well. I’m wondering if this might be a problem with the Large Hop? Has yours slouched since you purchased it?

As for the zipper, as someone pointed out that its susceptible to wear around that area with constant use. BV’s certificate of craft will not cover any wear. Zip or no zip isn’t a dealbreaker for me as the magnetic closure of the Hop seems sturdy enough to stop prying hands. The large compartment inside would be handy for phone, wallet, keys etc.

Hop doesn’t come with the lifetime warranty but I’m concerned about the corners. However, those I’ve asked have said there has been no wear to the corners even after many months of regular use. I mean, I don’t mind regular wear to the corners but I can’t stop wondering if the pointy corners will wear poorly. What are your thoughts on this?

I have tried on the Hop in Selfridges near where I live. However they do not have the medium Jodie which is also sold out on the website. A BV store in London hasn’t got many left either. An SA sent me some photos - the width on the Hop and Jodie seems similar but the shape of the Jodie makes it look less wider than the Hop. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to visit the BV store any time soon. Also, apparently as the sale would be “internal”, I wouldn’t be able to return my purchase, just exchange it for another item or store credit.

Attaching some pictures of the Medium Jodie and the Large Hop the SA sent to me.

Also, just received these photos of the medium Jodie and the Large Hop. The khaki green on the hop looks lush!
