My friend just started selling Mary Kay. What do you want to know? I've heard her whole sales pitch probably 50 times this past week alone.

Be wary, and I only say that not because I think the product is crap, but because she's spilling out all the parrot knowledge but she's never even used any skincare or really any makeup in general before. You don't need to know crap to sell the stuff or slap it on someone's face.

The hard sell is what turns me off from Mary Kay, and the reason why I refuse to try their products. I knew a woman who was a Regional Director of Sales (or some similar title) and she was incredibly pushy with trying to get me to purchase products. MK is a lucrative business for a lot of the reps, so I guess the hard sell works on some people, but for me, it made me want to purchase anything BUT Mary Kay.

Good products speak for themselves, via word of mouth from satisfied customers, online reviews, etc. They don't need sales reps to harass potential customers into buying their products.

The only way to become successful is to RECRUIT OTHERS which is why many are pushy. lol There is no way to survive on just selling products which is a shame because they are good products.

So for about a 2 weeks I was a Mary kay sales rep. lol I signed up because I was using the products and I liked them so I mostly did it for the discount (or that's what I was told). Little did I realize the time committment and cost that went with it. You have to sell a certain amoung per month to be an active Mary Kay rep and get the discount (and it was a high amount). Additionally, you really had to put up a lot of your money in order to sell the products. This is why when you reorder, it can take a while because the rep is either calling other reps for the product or waiting to place a big order because you actually LOSE money when smaller orders are placed.

hmm... I was actually considering going to a Mary Kay meeting, but not after I read through this thread. I don't work well with pushy staff... I usually leave empty handed because I feel so uncomfortable...

Well, I went to the meeting last night and it wasn't all that bad. My rep was actually pretty awesome. I overheard some of the other reps giving their customers the hard sell, but mine didn't at all. She asked me what I was interested in and left it at that. When they started the thing about becoming a sales rep, I told them that my job does not allow outside employment, and that stopped the conversation.

I ended up getting the Time Wise skin care regimen. We'll see how it goes.

You were lucky that the rep was pretty awesome! I went to a MK party last week and the rep was really pushy about everything. One girl just got up and left, she was so turned off by her. It was kinda sad, cause I hear their skin care is pretty good.

Hi there!

I am a Mary Kay Consultant in Canada and just stumbled on this conversation by accident. I am sorry to hear some have had a bad experience with their Mary Kay Consultants, but I want to assure you, we all aren't pushy or rude! I would never want anyone to buy something simply because they felt pressured.

Mary Kay started her business in 1963 and followed the Golden Rule then, and it still applies now in the business. Do unto others as you would have done unto you. I totally agree with this and want each and every one of my clients to be happy and have an enjoyable experience with Mary Kay. Perhaps some of the Consultants you have encountered may not have taken the Golden Rule to heart. That is unfortunate, because it really is just a way of life. Being nice and treating others as you, yourself, would like to be treated.

For those of you who enjoy their Mary Kay, I'm so happy for you! Mary Kay products really are wonderful for all skin types!

For those of you who are unsatisfied, try a new consultant. It should not take weeks to have your product shipped to you, depending on where you live, it could be as fast as 48 hrs. If you have a good consultant, she will have the stock on hand and can deliver it the same day! If you have any questions I can be reached at [email protected] Please write Mary Kay in the subject line.

Have a great day!!

I know a lady that when I met her I thought she was in her 30's and she was actually well into her 50's. Her skin was absolutely flawless (she was black also) and I asked her what her secret was and she said she had been using MK products since a teenager. I guess she did a lot of prevention but that should say something about the products. She didn't have one. single. wrinkle.

My neighbor has a new friend that sells MKay and if you saw the way this woman wears makeup that would be the last thing you would ever buy from her. My friend still tries to talk me into getting a free MKay facial--no thanks.

I think it's actually a very underrated brand in terms of quality, but their sales practices annoy the hell out of me and most people so that's probably why. My mom loves a lot of their skincare, and has owned many makeup products for a long time, my cousin started selling it in College for side money but mostly to get a discount. She's kept it up for a long time, so I get a few of the skincare items from her. The microdermabrasion stuff--the step 1 part scrub...the best face scrub ever. Love it. I have a few moisturizers and I like the timewise eye cream a lot (the tube one). I almost always go back to their concealer, despite the fact they changed it a few years back and it's far less opaque.

I'm another one who has used some Mary Kay skin and cosmetic products but the pushiness of the sales person (who was a good friend of mine) was too much. Out of friendship I bought over $200 worth of products but was unhappy with myself for being such a pushover.

The products were okay - but there was nothing that I felt compelled to buy again.

MK products make me break out. I also dislike its lack of availability compared to dept store brands. But I know several people that are devoted to a few of their items.

I have been selling MK for a while. I've been a Director, won a car, the whole bit. If you run across a pushy consultant, just find someone else. You should not be pressured into buying products or being recruited. I was never pushy, and didn't make my customers feel uncomfortable. It should not take long for you to receive your re-orders, if it does, that means your consultant probably does not have the product. Try to find a consultant who has inventory by just asking them if they stock their products. As women, when we want something, we want it now, we don't want to wait....lol

The skin care products are great, and last. You can't go wrong with really any of the products, and there is a return policy if you don't like them.
