I went to a metting a few days ago and I won a Mary Kay skin care and cosmetic makeover doorprize. I gave the consultant my name and phone number so she can call me later to set up the appointment. I have never used any Mary Kay products.

Anyone use their skincare or make up? I am trying to decide if I want to even bother with the appointment.

I've used both their skin care and cosmetics. I was really happy with their skincare line as well as their makeup brushes. I also loved a lot of their fragrances as well. I haven't used their cosmetics since the new packaging/formula so I can't really say. Before hand, I thought they were a good quality for the price. The only thing I never liked about Mary Kay was that if I ran out of something, I had to wait for it to be ordered.

When you have your consultation just try out the products and don't let her pressure you into anything (some of the consultants are like that). Enjoy yourself!

I used there perfume before , it was nice. But as Kimmy Anne stated as with most sales pitches be aware of them trying to get you to become a consultant as well. Stick to your guns girl..lol :boxing::lolots:

It kinda amazes me that they said this was a doorprize, you can get this done with any Mary Kay consultant..... I have received MaryKay postcards saying this before. Be ready for a major sales rant. If I was spending money on beauty items I would rather buy things I have used in the past that work for me then try Mary Kay stuff.

I am already prepared for the sales pitch. I don't have any problem turning people down and walking away, but I also want to be open minded. I am mainly interested in the skin care products since I rarely wear make up anyway. I just don't want to waste my time if the skin care products are crap.

MK skincare is not crap. I have used them on and off for 15 years. I get off because I don't like to have to call a consultant to order and wait. I like going to the store and buying what I need. That is one downside. Another downside is their sales tactics and pressure to become a consultant. Hence my reluctance to use their stuff consistently.

You really haven't "won" anything - you're simply being given the same sales pitch that anyone else can get. Since you've already said that you're okay with that, I guess there's no harm in trying out their products. My step-mom used to sell MK (about 25 years ago) and their products were fine. I wouldn't go so far as to say that their stuff is "crap" but I do think that there is a reason why you don't hear much about them (meaning, that there are much better skin care an/or make-up lines out there). If it was me, I wouldn't waste my time, but to each their own.

Well, I guess the makeover wasn't really a prize *lol* But I did get a $20 coupon to go with the makeover, so I guess it won't be so bad to get $20 in free products in exchange for listening to an hour long sales pitch.

I have a few Mary Kay products, I get them in the mail for free a lot. My personal favorite from them is the Lash Love mascara. It's a little clumpy, but it's also very dramatic and if you wiggle the brush through your lashes it won't clump. But I have no idea about skincare.

i really like mary kay products but the people who sell them are always kinda really pushy.
the last 'party' i went to i was kinda tricked into going... was the only person that showed up at my friend's so it was just the two of us and the lady. at the end she said to me "so what would you like the buy?" and was totally pressuring me into buying the super expensive skin care line, apparently when you first buy it you can't buy just pieces, you have to buy the whole thing THEN you can order bits and pieces.
but i couldn't just shell out over $100 at that moment.
i did buy some tinted moisturizer so she's lucky i was even interested in anything.

oh and she basically told me i was doing my makeup wrong because i didn't put anything on my lips. she told me my face was unbalanced. i don't like stuff on my lips, no lipstick, no lip gloss. i only do foundation and eye makeup.
