I went back through this thread and just want to say: Marco Tagliaferri made incredible stuff. My bag is the FIRST version (and best version) in black medium
With silver hardware and 7 years later it’s still perfect with no signs of wear at ALL.
IMO, I got off TPF because ppl felt the need to complain so much (wanted bigger ugly handles to fit over the shoulder—- why??? You’re buying a SATCHEL) that the bag was changed to a very ugly, matronly design. Now everyone wants the original because the revised versions are atrocious. The large floppy handles and side hooks just completely take away from the “effortlessly cool and chic” look that Marco expressed by making this bag in Goat leather.
Does anyone know if the shop was closed permanently after his death?
Let this be a lesson to all: if you don’t like a bag’s design, then get another. But all those women that complained and wanted changes made it a really ugly bag in the end and from what I heard MT didn’t want to do business anymore with the US because of it.
For all the girls that OWN and LOVE the first original design, cheers to us for getting the best of the best. I paid full
Price for mine on Aster Alice and I personally think the bag was completely ruined with the “revamp”.
Once again, if you don’t like a bag’s design, pick another. You don’t like the leather, get a Dooney Florentine then. I will cherish my original version forever as this bag DOES last a lifetime and doesn’t show any wear at all. Tsk tsk on those that wanted the “redesign”. #TheSlouchyBirkin

Exactly 7 years old and looks even better than when I got it brand new from
Italy through AA. Not a huge fan of HG... especially because the ugly

I just went through my bags and found my original MT with gold hardware because of your post. I forgot how beautiful the leather is and will be carrying it this week! I didn’t even know he passed away. I love the original also and not a fan of the newer version....although, I did buy my original from HG when she first got them. Always excellent service.
I bought the later incarnation of the bag and it was ugly and horrible! The leather was nasty and plasticky feeling I was shocked! I waited too long to return and just donated the ugly thing.
Yay I’m so happy I brought this gorgeous bag back to light! I carried mine for 2 weeks and forced myself to change out of it lol. Yes love the originals were the best, I’m sorry that chessmont didn’t get to get one. No hard feelings against HG at all it was just her working with MT that caused the bag to change so drastically. The original was perfect and tried and true with no problems at all.
