Interesting! It looks very similar to epsom but I do notice a difference. Can't pinpoint what specifically but overall...theres something different about it.
I think the best way that I can describe it (with my amateur leather knowledge) is a finer grain and less embossed?
I chanced across a bastia in this leather, the embossing is finer and overall has a softer feel than epsom.
In July, I was lucky enough to purchase a gold 1960's (?) 35 cm Kelly in Paris. The poor dear was in desperate need of some major TLC at the Hermes spa. Anywho, on my way home, I stopped in at the Hermes Boutique at CDG Airport and asked if they might know what leather it was. The wonderful staff there were going back and forth in French (too fast for me to understand) but it seems that the woman that knows the older leathers was dumbfounded. So the next day, I brought my bag into my local boutique. Once again, scratching their heads wondering and suggestions flying. It didn't help that it was very dry and quite obviously Baby was put in a corner and forgotten about for a very, very long time. I just got off the phone with one of the wonderful SA's and she said the paperwork from Paris stated the leather was "Veau Madame" and was more than likely a special order bag. So has anyone heard of this kind of leather before? If so, please let me know! Thanks!!!!
There's an existing thread on Madame here. It's a new leather and I doubt that it's a leather used on a vintage bag.In July, I was lucky enough to purchase a gold 1960's (?) 35 cm Kelly in Paris. Here she is and I think @ladysarah just named her! Lock and keys were not original Hermes. I ordered new ones and also a new clochette as the original was very brittle. Paris suggested replacing the handle but that will be for another day. They wanted to know if I wanted to put double rings on to make her a shoulder/crossbody but I declined. I want to keep her as original as possible. When she comes back I'll get her a new Twilly just like I did for her "sister." They did say her shape was very good and was pleased with it even with the leather being so dry. I have full faith in Paris just like I did for my bags that previously went to the spa in San Fran. I just wish I could find out her history as well as her sister (28 cm 1950's-60's Kelly black with toile) that I got a few years back from the Côte d’Azur area.I would love to see photos of Madame...
