Hi TPFers,

I came across a Calvi and Bastia on the H Canada website with the leather listed as ‘Madame Calfskin’. Is it a stamped leather like Epsom? Any intel would be much appreciated.

Picture below - the black Bastia is Epsom, the Calvi and gold Bastia are Madame Calfskin.

Thank you all so much! I’m not the biggest Epsom fan but the finer grain in Madame Calfskin looks much more appealing to me. Will email my SA and see if she has any SLGs in this that I can see in person!

Thank you all again for your input!

In July, I was lucky enough to purchase a gold 1960's (?) 35 cm Kelly in Paris. The poor dear was in desperate need of some major TLC at the Hermes spa. Anywho, on my way home, I stopped in at the Hermes Boutique at CDG Airport and asked if they might know what leather it was. The wonderful staff there were going back and forth in French (too fast for me to understand) but it seems that the woman that knows the older leathers was dumbfounded. So the next day, I brought my bag into my local boutique. Once again, scratching their heads wondering and suggestions flying. It didn't help that it was very dry and quite obviously Baby was put in a corner and forgotten about for a very, very long time. I just got off the phone with one of the wonderful SA's and she said the paperwork from Paris stated the leather was "Veau Madame" and was more than likely a special order bag. So has anyone heard of this kind of leather before? If so, please let me know! Thanks!!!!

Veau madame is available in certain small slgs at the moment, as I have seen them on hermes.com, and I have been told it will come in bags too, my podium order lol.
Love to see more pics of this leather, too.

The following is from a website i came across before "maisondeluxeonline"

"The Veau Madame is one of Hermès' more recent offerings that is mainly available in small leather goods, such as the Bastia change purse and Calvi card holder. This calfskin's appearance is similar to Epsom although the embossed grain is finer and less pronounced while being softer to the touch. "

There's an existing thread on Madame here. It's a new leather and I doubt that it's a leather used on a vintage bag. :shrugs: For any identification questions on leather, color, design, or size please post them at this thread. Sharing pics of the bag would be most helpful in allowing others to help you identify the leather of your vintage Kelly. ;)

Here she is and I think @ladysarah just named her! Lock and keys were not original Hermes. I ordered new ones and also a new clochette as the original was very brittle. Paris suggested replacing the handle but that will be for another day. They wanted to know if I wanted to put double rings on to make her a shoulder/crossbody but I declined. I want to keep her as original as possible. When she comes back I'll get her a new Twilly just like I did for her "sister." They did say her shape was very good and was pleased with it even with the leather being so dry. I have full faith in Paris just like I did for my bags that previously went to the spa in San Fran. I just wish I could find out her history as well as her sister (28 cm 1950's-60's Kelly black with toile) that I got a few years back from the Côte d’Azur area.66380604_10157667607861414_797442089607495680_n.jpg
