hmm, I personally prefer a G, H, or I diamond.
If you go to Costco they have G and M diamonds and when you compare the two the difference is pretty noticeable.

Depending on your budget and preference, are you okay going down in size, maybe to 1.5-1.8 carat for a more colorless diamond?

That's a very good suggestion to go to Costco. I will do that this weekend. I've never actually seen an M diamond before. From online videos, it doesn't seem bad if you add fluorescence.

I would either go near-colorless (G-I range) or near fancy yellow, like X, Y...

Thank you for the suggestion. Im looking into I.

These are rings I've had made for myself. All in rose gold.

Same said marquise and a 2.2 carat O to P range colour, VS1.

I used to only wear white gold but I find rose suits me better. I look for lower grades that are cut well. Personally I do see the point of paying a premium for a whiter colour when I'm not setting in white. I would like a yellow gold set one next.

Diamonds/jewellery are a very personal thing. It's your preference and what you prefer. I know many people wouldn't like the yellow/warmth of mine, but I love them.

I just bought M color Diamond studs from James Allen. Depends on what you like. But, to me and everyone else that I’ve asked, they look very White, and you can’t see the tint. The studs are Ideal cut. I’m really glad that I took the chance and bought them. The same size studs in G color were twice the price. I put the studs next to my G color diamond pendant and I can’t see a big difference either. But, these are studs and not a ring.

Definitely go check some Rings out in person, you might be pleasantly surprised. If M color is too warm for you, then you can try J color. IMO, it would be a waste to pay a lot more for a near colorless diamond when you’re going to use a yellow gold setting. Especially, since the Price of diamonds jumps significantly when you go up to I color.

I'm surprised you can't see a tint. It definitely makes me interested in purchasing a warmer diamond.

Does your M have fluorescence? I would be curious to see. Would you mind sharing a picture next to the G?

I would be interested as well. Even an ideal cut diamond will show it’s true color from the side view. Fluorescence could help.

You definitely can see a tint in M color diamonds. The higher the color, the brighter a diamond will appear, assuming they are well cut. In a modern cut stone, I'd want no lower than I color for an engagement ring, but I know people who did go with J color in superideal cut stones (such as from Whiteflash.com) and were happy. However, I do have a couple of right hand rings with very low color light yellow antique cut diamonds set with yellow gold around them to enhance the color (and white diamond halos for contrast).
