LV paper bags now MADE IN CHINA

Just because the packaging is made in China doesn't mean the bags, accessories, shoes, ready to wear, etc are made in China.

I'm almost positive that all designer brands have packaging that is made in China/a similar country in terms of manufacturing. What's the point in having a paper bag and box that's made in Italy? They're selling you the products that go INSIDE the packaging, and as long as those are made in Europe, I personally don't have a problem. If they made the paper bag and boxes in Europe, that means more unnecessary overhead costs for LV which results in higher prices for their products. I'd rather pay less for a product that has packaging made in China, then pay more for a product just so that its PACKAGING is made in Europe.

The whole "MADE IN ________" does spark quite an interesting debate, because I have heard that some companies have 70% of a product assembled in China, and the last 30% assembled in Europe just so they can say made in France/Italy/Spain. The regulations about that sort of thing are quite lax/non-existent. The book How Luxury Lost Its Luster discusses this in detail.

I couldn't agree more. I think LV's packaging has been made in China/Hungary for a while now. Honestly, that doesn't bother me. As long as the products themselves aren't.

TOTALLY AGREE 1 Million percent! This is one of the reasons I moved on to LV from Coach bags. At first Coach went to Turkey, Guam, Puerto Rico, then OFF to China Full force. Did they make a drop in their prices...NOPE, more money for their pockets. No offense to the Asians on the TPF, but I won't even buy a pair of Shoes from China. I look and look and look because even the high priced shoes companies are doing this...

If LV goes and starts making in China and saying it is the same as Made in France, then I will move on again!!
that's what i am thinking. But for me i know for a fact that LV have a very high standards when it comes to their craft.

Nothing against the Chinese products. But i know that we have a stereotype regarding Chinese made. Is like poor in quality, and Hazardous(like the recall for the children's toys)

Having Chinese people doing the packaging of LV is like one step higher for them regarding to quality.

actually i wouldn't be that surprised if parts of lv stuff were made in china. i don't mean packing now but the actual pruducts.

just read an article of manufacturing parts of vuitton shoes in italy. most of the workers were illegaly in the country, they were very badly paid, slept at the factory etc. i read this from the best known newspaper here so i think the info should be pretty reliable.

not bags but arcam which manufactures better and pretty expensive hifi procducts in uk uses sony cd bases in their cd players. i bet the sony parts aren't made in uk.

my point is you never know. vuitton is a greedy company which tries to keep the costs as low as possible without hurting the quality. as do the other luxury companies. products are these days made in many parts and by many different people. there are many subcontractors and not every company really cares how the stuff is made as long the costs are low (and quality good).

I also think LV nowadays produce some of their products in China.
I bought a zippy wallet, but had to bring it back because i notice that the stitching was not straight and very ugly. Some stitches were long and others short. The handcraft was very poor.

LV belongs to LVHM . The only thing that interest them is how to make more profit.

Sometimes i really think , should i pay so much for a bag that is made in china ?

I am selling/have sold all of my handbags that were manufactured in China. I feel good about that.

As for the shopping bags, there are certain things you can't get away from in terms of Chinese goods. What is MOST important is that these bags are reused or recycled. Please do not just throw them out! The brown paper/cardboard is very sturdy and could be used for so many different things.

^why? haha there's nothing wrong with "made in china."

mine say "packaging made in china" also. nothing wrong with that:) i don't think bags will be made in china any time soon though.

I totally agree with ellc and jjanais . Yep, LVMH is definitely a "purely for profit" organization. Who knows, one day they might outsource their manufacturing to China or India. On that note, I'm gonna find that book "How Luxury Lost Its Luster" to read.

Hey, perhaps the quality issue they've been having problem with lately may improve if they move to those countries..LOL.....JK..

I remember when there was a time when people were particular about their dustbags being made in Italy. Now, most tags I see are made in India or just 100% cotton. The S-lock used to have a made in France engraved on it. Who knows where those are made now. I like to think that I LVoe Vuitton for their designs and innovations. I used to be a "France" snob. Now I have "Italy" and "Spain" pieces. Just a thought.

I think it's different for europe and US then, because I've only got dut bags from spain/Italy. Not that it matters much, allthough the concerns for the environmental damage I must say is a valid one no matter how I look at it.

Surely many of the parts of an LV bag (and most other brand name bags as well ) are not from France or even anywhere in europe, but I doubt taking your business to Hermes will make it a lot better over time. They don't get all their parts from france or maybe not even the EU, and surely both brands still keep most of the assemblies in their own factories. If they didn't we'd see a lot more "real" conterfeits, drop offs from the factories etc.

LV released news of opening a factory for producing shoe parts in India some time ago, so I would not be surprised if they expand the manufactury there after a while, not necessarily to move production, but to meet the rising demands.

If LV have the equal domestic standard for wages in INdia as in SPain, US and France in addition to meeting the same environmental standards they would meet in Europe as it is a French company and surely as a very expansive, international and profitable luxury company can afford it and should have customers who demand it.
