I have two montsouris and I love them. I’ve had them for longer than 15+ years. I have them in gm size so they’re bigger than the mm pictured, so I’m not sure if my vote counts. The only thing about the bag that’s cumbersome is the closure. Opening and closing takes a while with the draw string and the strap buckle, but I look to it as being a safety feature, I like that about it.

Montsouris gets my vote.

I had the Montsouris gm backpack for years and could find nothing wrong with it. One thing I loved were the secure straps on it. For me straps play a big part in a bag. I personally feel with time the Chanel straps will not hold up with heavy use. And to me they would be uncomfortable. I sold my Chanel flap bag due to the chain strap.

Both are nice bags but also seem so different. The Montsouris has a different look from the more classic Chanel. You can wear it in bad weather like snow and not worry. I would not wear the Chanel in rain or snow. As for long term use, the Montosouris would show less wear on the bottom corners due to the heavy leather bottom trim. Many Chanel bags friends have all have eventually had some corner rubbing or wear. The Black Chanel is a classic color and could go with anything while the monogram LV is more casual. I also liked to wear my Montsouris on one shoulder versus the standard backpack carry.

In the end I think it comes out to ones lifestyle and what they need out of a bag. Daily use, special occasions, being able to hold a lot with comfort. Worrying about damage and having to be more careful with a bag.

Buy what you love and will use versus something that will sit in a closet.

At first I would say the Chanel because it’s just so luxurious & classic looking. However, if I was looking for a true backpack that would look awsome with my casual to semi-dressy outfits, I would definitely go with LV. I feel the Montsouris can be an everyday bag, while the Chanel would need to be thought out depending on your outfit.

I have 2 backpacks from LV, one of them is montsouris MM. love that it fits a lot and comfortable straps. Long time ago I did consider that Chanel backpack too however the chain might be heavy and digging into the shoulder over a period of time. Think about, how you are going to use it. I use it daily and travel.

Thank you for the replies. I have no backpacks in my collection currently.
The montsouris was in stock yesterday and when I checked last night it was OOS again. Is it hard to get a hold of?
For the Chanel, I’d have to sell my GST to get the Chanel backpack
For the lv it’s ressonable enough for me to purchase without losing my GST.
I think the LV seems more hard wearing but the Chanel is simply elegant. It’s so tough to decide
