Hi! Not sure if this is something we talk about on here. I for one, love my monograms and will always wear them, especially my Speedy B30 as a travel carry on.

I wonder what your thoughts are on the "Quiet Luxury" trend that most certainly attacks the likes of LV monogram/Damier Ebene.

1) Did it affect the way you choose which bags to carry?
2) Have you "shelved" your monogram pieces or even considered selling them?

I noticed that some influencers selling bags they have "outgrown" mostly consists of monogram canvas and empriente leather pieces but deny that it's due to the trend.

I’m new to LV so this trend sucks haha! I love DE printed canvas. I still consider it the same as monogram and probably an unpopular choice for this trend. I also have YSL bags that sport the gorgeous logo in front. I intend on continuing to enjoy them.

It goes without saying that we should just wear what we like. As a mom of 3 little kids ages 4 and under, I appreciate the practicality of my speedy b 25 and Alma bb in DE. Nothing will stop me from wearing them. I do think that the neverfull gets a lot of hate where I’m located but that was prior to this trend.

In my opinion, it’s a “try hard” trend. You are either old money or you’re not. If you are drawn to quiet luxury, then great! Embrace it! However, if you are buying a bag to look old money, people who are old money can already tell you aren’t based on many other aspects. It’s also marginalizing many populations and I appreciate some YouTubers who have highlighted this.

I personally don’t like the quiet luxury trend. I find it boring haha and it’s not my vibe but I guess if I want to be trendy, I can reach for my Epi Alma bb or my Ysl toy loulou in blacked out hardware.

Hi! I think this is an interesting question and post.

My quick response is "No" the Quiet Luxury *trend* has not influenced the LVoe I have for my monogram/damier pieces or my shopping plans for the near future. That said, I have recently purchased a few Loewe handbags and admire them also. But I was influenced towards those purchases not by the Quiet Luxury movement but by another LV PurseForum member who compared the shape and slouch of the LV Side Trunk to the shape and slouch of the Loewe Puzzle bag. (I am sorry, but I do not remember who posted that comparison, but I am grateful!) That member's comparison prompted me to research the Puzzle bag (I've been living under an LV rock apparently), and wow! I now own one black medium Puzzle bag and have a floral mini Puzzle en route as I write this.

Another interesting topic concerns how the Quiet Luxury movement might trend toward being "classist," which merits consideration. Also, I wonder how much of the push toward the Quiet Luxury trend is motivated by some clandestine marketing gurus somewhere to drive sales.;)

Before I knew much about LV, I was drawn to the monogram design; I found the repeating pattern aesthetically pleasing. To each his or her own: logo-less or logo-mania. As Polonius admonished his son in Hamlet, "To thine own self be true" (I.3.84).

Okay, so that was not very quick. I'll try again: Influencers Shminfluencers

This is a really insightful answer! Also, I feel like we have a similar collection. :biggrin:I also have an Alma BB in DE and another one in Epi (Quartz). I also have a YSL with a big logo (Sunset Medium).
I agree with your thoughts on "looking old money". If you're old money, you are. I don't see the point in dressing like one otherwise. I'm not old money so if that's how I appear then it's just correct. Haha. I enjoy neutral/plain clothing so typically my bags are my expression.

Good question, I think "quiet luxury" has always been around though and only became a "thing" people talk about this year because it's a trend, and trends come and go. Personal taste is personal and these days, trends come and go faster than a new TikTok craze. I'm personally sick of the talk about quiet luxury. It's become an overused phrase.

You also have to look at the economy in general, and it's probably more that people are trying to sell more pieces, logo or not, because 1) preloved is becoming more popular and accepted, with more consignment and other selling options available than there were previously, and 2).interest rates are rising globally, there are tough economic times throughout the world, and people need/want to sell and downsize their wardrobes.

Plus 3) climate change, awareness of the damage fast fashion does to the world, (that includes LV), and wanting to partake more in a "circular economy" and shop for what's already been made. Again, more options to find these globally than in previous years.

People shouldn't dress according to trends, but according to what they're comfortable with.

Trends these days are so strange. It seems almost artificial how many influencer types started talking about quiet luxury at the same time. Maybe because luxury companies sold everyone branded bags and now they want to sell everyone non-branded bags?

There’s definitely nothing wrong with pointing out that it’s silly to wear branded bags as a status symbol when many super wealthy people don’t. But it’s equally silly to try and pretend like wearing a non-branded bag makes you look wealthy. Wear the bags you want and don’t worry about what you other people think!

I am not fond of the term "quiet luxury". lol I have a different view on it. Anyone that is a lover of designer bags knows the fashion house it comes from, regardless of whether it has excessive logos or not. Birkins and Kellys are minimally branded, but they are not quiet bags at all. I owned 2 Kellys and 2 Birkins.....they drew WAY more attention than my LV bags. So while they are quiet in the sense that they are "plain" leather on the outside and not branded, they were the loudest bags I owned when it came to attention from others. There was nothing quiet about them. Birkin screams Hermes, the puzzle bag screams Loewe. They all scream to me. haha The mere absence of logos does not necessarily make a bag "quiet", especially when the bag style itself is either iconic to the brand, or highly coveted. It get it...in the most simplest of terms, it is merely a preference for plain bags as opposed to excessive logos. I just can't help but see a little tongue in cheek irony. My daughter is team plain. I am team BOTH.

That said, a person's taste over the years can certainly change. I know mine has, and I have sold bags because my needs also changed throughout the years. I have no use for large bags anymore, and at 52 years old, I have no desire to be a trendsetter either. lol I could care less about trends because they are cyclical. All I ask is that the mullet and 80's glam rock hair never return!!!

LV signature canvas has been around for over 100 years. I am not going to stop wearing mono canvas bags that clearly have stood the test of time. If others have grown bored, I totally get it. They may find themselves loving it all over again in 5-10 years, but will come at a much higher price tag with all of these rather aggressive price increases.

A lot of people correlate "quiet luxury" with "old money", that is why it is now a trend online. Some people want to "fool" others that they are "old rich" even when they aren't.....as though you can't check family history and backgrounds nowadays easily.....especially with the help of the internet! That said, a lot of them follow the "quiet luxury trend".
I wear what I want, use my things, and buy what I want because I want to, I love them, and I can afford them.....not because I want others to think I am rich or whatever. Sometimes the logos on my things are big. Sometimes they are not there. And I am cool with that either way. And yes, I still use my LVs with logos on it.
By the way, if somebody has to tell me that he or she is wealthy, that is one very obvious sign that he or she is really not---in most instances. And it doesn't matter whether or not he/she is carrying items with big logos or not!
