Hi All!

Just wanted to share with anyone who cares about luggage tags from LV; keep in mind these are just my experience and personal opinions and maybe perhaps a little bit ranty.

So earlier this afternoon, I went to Louis Vuitton where I had previously gotten some Luggage Tags before. Now I know they had a brand new policy with not being able to sell them unless you own an actual luggage from them. Well, I owned a Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandolier that I purchased at the same store location where I was getting Luggage Tags from.

When I acquired about the Luggage Tags from the associate who has helped me with them before, she had informed me that they are not able to sell or order replacement luggage tags unless I had purchased a luggage, that's when she offered to sell me a luggage from their collection. I did inform her that I had already purchased a luggage and can provide proof of purchase if she didn't believe me. She went ahead and asked me what color I wanted and the quantities as well. So I had mentioned that I wanted the tan color that was not treated, as I had two to three that were various colors that were heat stamped with like the Money Cat, the Vivienne, and the New York stamp from Saks in NY, and lets just say that the treated leather did not take form very well and it looks really poorly done. So, when I had the tan, or Vachetta tag heat stamped for my mother, it looked a lot better. I had shown the associate all the tags I had purchased as well and their heat stamps to show I am not in it to resell the tags; as I had suspected that she thought I was selling these tags as a reseller or something.

The associate then proceeded with telling me that Louis Vuitton will send me a letter that I am "marked," which I took as being banned from either buying the Luggage Tags or any of their products (which I doubt). I didn't make a scene or anything, but that just kind of blew me away, I should have told the associate, "Well, if this is my last purchase from Louis Vuitton, I should just buy all the Luggage Tags that they had then and there."

I don't mind buying Louis Vuitton products from the boutique, but for them to mark my profile or whatever it is that they were going to do, it just made me realize that all the money I've spent at Louis Vuitton and the bags I purchased from several SAs for my mom and me; it was not worth it anymore. At some point, I just really wanted to collect Luggage Tags so I can have them as souvenirs for when I travel and get those Destination Heat Stamps. But since I actually own a luggage, and I am willing to pay more money just to get replacement Luggage Tags. It's like Louis Vuitton wants you to buy a new luggage every time you want to get a different stamp now.

This was just really shocking to me, and I instantly lost respect for the brand.
I've considered selling all my Louis Vuitton goods, and this is the sad part since I planned on passing them down to my kids in the future. But now I'm just thinking, my business and loyalty will just go to Goyard.
I don't want to say goodbye to Louis Vuitton just yet, since I had literally planned on going to London, Paris, Germany, and Amsterdam to have the Luggage Tags I have to be heat stamped for their Destination Location Stamps.

Any comments, suggestions, or opinions are appreciated!

Thanks all!

Side note** When they gave me the two tags I purchased today, they had given me the receipt of my purchase as well as another customer's purchase. Which contained the item they had bought, as well as the address that the piece would be sent to. I just feel like they are not being responsible with customer information!

I'm a bit confused about this. She said you're going to get a letter from them? I would love to know what exactly this letter is going to say. After she said you are" marked", did she explain what this meant exactly? If you are banned as you suspect, why did she sell you the tags this time? I'm not questioning what happened to you, just trying to understand what is going on. Very interesting!

Yes, she had mentioned that I will be getting a letter from Louis Vuitton. Now as to what the content of the letter may have is something that was not clear. I didn't really inquire about it too much since I know I'm not reselling them, and I literally have bought luggage pieces from them before, perhaps it was more to deter for folks from buying them?
She may have sold this to me as a one time left thing, though she did ask me what color I wanted, which I know they have all of them. If you've seen their massive luggage art work in their boutiques, I love it! But again, if I get the letter, I will post it.

Well by giving you the details of the other person they could be breaking GDPR rules about data protection. This is the name of the UK rule but as personal data is now so closely governed worldwide they could get into a lot of trouble for that.

Hi everyone,
this is so interesting to know.
Thanks for your post.
I live in Germany and have just bought another luggage tag and got it heat stamped and sent to me last week!
I neither own any bag that originally comes with a tag nor luggage and the CA knew right away I just wanted to put it on the Noe that I bought that day.
No fuss, no questions asks, no policy talk... and it was my first time in that store with this CA.
I am really disappointed to hear that this should not be possible in the states since I planned to get destination stamps during my holiday ... :frown::confused1:
Maybe people from other countries in Europe and around the world can share their recent experiences?
That would be appreciated !!

If this happened anywhere in the EU then it definitely was a personal data breach according to the GDPR...

Want to know for sure if you are somehow marked? You are entitled to a so called right of access (GDPR article 15) which means that you can ask to see all the information they have concerning yourself and they have to provide it within 30 days. You can’t buy them in Copenhagen anymore without having/buying luggage or a bag that comes with a tag.

That’s a great call. This reminded me of something that happened to me, slightly different scenario but last year June on the way to the states I bought a neverfull from Heathrow. My first ever LV purchase, I since bought other items online in December last year and latest being few weeks ago in store. When I looked on my online profile I could only see online purchases and not in store purchases, I asked the advisor if they could align it but they said that is how it is but they could see it all from their end. They couldn’t see that i had bought a neverfull though and long story short this made me check my receipt and surprisingly although it’s charged my credit card (rightly so!) the client detail part has someone else’s name on it with Canadian address and email address etc. So there seems to have been a mix up, I didn’t mention anything as this was just me checking my receipts sometime ago. Should this matter?

No. It really doesn’t matter at all for any after sales service you might get from Louis Vuitton. People receive LVs as gifts all the time and they don’t have the receipts.

It might matter for insurance purposes, so take pictures of your bag. That’s about it.

I guess I'm wondering why you showed her pics of all the tags in the first place knowing the policy is strict now. It's a replacement piece, meaning the original item was lost or destroyed. By showing her your vast collection, you basically admitted you're not purchasing them as intended. They don't know that you didn't sell all those tags. I'm not sure how showing the pics proves you weren't a reseller. If you only have one bag, you only need one tag.

You kinda shot yourself in the foot but offering up information that wasnt needed or request...

But a few luggage tags seems silly to get completely banned over. It makes more sense for them to ban you from buying more tags.

Well the reason I showed her in the first place was because when I initially purchased them many months ago, I had told her my intention to begin with. So.. The opportunity for me to show her was then and there, and how would I have known that it was an issue then. I literally felt like I was building my relationship with the SA or Repairs Associate then, she had insisted that I show it to her when I came back from my trips. And purchasing them as intended is exactly what I did, personalize, hot stamp, or put on my actual LV pieces. Now I have seen and heard that many folks have purchased them without a Luggage from LV, so why should I be discriminated (maybe wrong term) for actually having those purchases, and actually having all the luggage tags. That should show that I am not in the business of reselling. Now, if I was reselling, then that is a different story.

If I may suggest, I would talk to the CA that you are currently developing your LV relationship with and ask if it is possible for you to buy the quantity that you would like and just bring those pieces over to the city/country that you would like their destination stamp. That way, you won't have to scourge the states just in case they are not able to assist you here.

Honestly though, I have gone to a few LV before and they all said I needed to own a luggage tag to purchase a "spare" or "replacement." At one location, they even ordered me the wrong color or texture. But where I got my actual luggage piece, they sold me Luggage Tags left and right, I practically have all the color on the wall of tags.

I'd rather not "rat out," the LV location that sold me all the tags; though I do feel as if they will still sell it to other people.

This whole thing is just so silly (except for the data breach part) over stupid luggage tags. I'm glad I don't love these tags. It's hard enough having to stalk things and deal with pre-pay orders etc. And now this? You'd think they're giving this stuff away for free!

They did mention that the tags generated no revenue for them. But still, I wish I never even bought a luggage from them in the first place! But that data breach or whatever people want to call it, is something I did not expect them to over see. Can people just imagine, "Louis Vuitton's Data Breach over in Rodeo Drive! (Beverly Hills)."
