Hi everyone, I just wanted to share an experience.

I purchased the new wave keychain for $400 Canadian less than one year ago. I purchased it through an SA at my local boutique. The other day, when I went to pull my keys out of my pocket, the keychain was detached from the D-ring loop part. I am not rough on my pieces and I always keep my keychain in my pocket alone.

When I texted the manager of my local boutique, she told me that they cannot offer any type of resolution as Louis Vuitton does not repair accessories such as these. Interestingly enough, that very day, I was on my way to pick up my special order speedy 25 from her. I found it pretty appalling that while I am purchasing a brand new bag costing over $2000 Canadian, she could not even offer a resolution such as replacing the item with an item of similar value or perhaps having me take it to a jeweller and LV pay for the repairs.

I attached pictures of the damaged item as well as a screenshot of my online order. Keep in mind that I actually ended up purchasing the item through the exact boutique that I picked up my speedy from and that is where I went to resolve my issue. (I bought it online, then returned it, then re purchased a couple weeks later through my SA).

When I went to email customer repairs mysef, I got an email indicating they do not deal with Canadian repairs and to bring it to my local boutique. I have attached that email as well at the bottom. Well, I brought it to the attention of my local boutique and was told there is nothing she can do as it is normal “wear and tear” and there is no repair or exchange on these items. Um, wear and tear doesn’t mean some cheap little ring should just bust off and render the keychain useless in 11 months. You can tell the material used to create these little connecting loops is so cheap and of poor quality.

How disgusting that while I am on my way to pick up a brand new bag from the curbside manager, and prior to doing so, text her and show her my broken piece, she cannot even offer me a new piece of similar value or offer a resolution to take home with my new bag.

That stinks that it didn’t last very long. I probably wouldn’t purchase those items again either. It’s frustrating when things like this wear so quickly and easily. Unfortunately if that’s LV’s policy then the SA’s hands are tied, and there’s nothing they can do. To salvage, I would probably drill a hole in the charm, add a jump ring, and reconnect it with pliers.

A jeweler may be able to solder the ring back on. Doesn't help your issue with LV (which, after that I honestly would not have picked up the Speedy), but will at least make your $460 item useful again.

Thank you- this seems to be my only real option, to bring to a jeweller and have it soldered. Thank you for your response. At least then I can use it again. And yeah I’m bringing back the speedy today, I can’t justify spending 2000$ on a bag when they can’t even be bothered to take care of me on a $400 item. And I’m not a first time buyer either, have purchased quite a bit with them over the years and this was my first issue.

I'm sorry this happened to you. This is also one of the main reasons I'm so hesitant to purchase the acrylic and metal accessories from LV. Maybe you'll be able to find a way to fix it through other means to make it functional again. But yeah, I would be disappointed as well that they weren't able to do anything about it at all.
Thank you- yes I would advise against buying any of that metal and acrylic stuff. It’s honestly total crap

Oh for sure- I think it is possible that it may be up to the discretion of the manager and she just did not want to deal with it or help me. She offered nothing and just wanted me to take the hit. Once I told her I wanted to escalate it, then she offered to send in a quality report. She could have offered this originally though but just gave me 0 options. That’s not a bad idea what you suggested- I think I am going to take it to a jeweller and see if it can be soldered perhaps. And if LV’s policy for accessories breaking in less than a year is to do nothing, well that is just bad customer service, quality and care

So sorry this happened to you and the service you received. I'm not sure where in Canada you are or if there is another store you could possibly take it to and see what they say.
Honestly yeah if I don’t get it soldered I may take it to someone else once the stores open and see if they can offer something as opposed to literally nothing

Thank you, this is an option I’m considering. The ol’ let’s see what someone else does. I’m in Toronto and dealt with one of the Yorkdale boutique managers. The stores are closed but maybe I can figure out how to connect with another boutique

I'm shocked at the lack of customer service you've received. Surely a product has to be fit for purpose and it's not unreasonable to expect a bag charm/key ring to last a lot longer than 11 months before breaking. Also from looking at the breakage, it doesn't look like it has been caused by misuse, IMO it looks more like a quality/design fault issue. Hope you manage to get this sorted out to your satisfaction.

My thoughts exactly. It is not unreasonable to expect this to last longer than a year. And yeah it definitely seems like a quality issue by the way the little ring cracked. Maybe the chain part is too heavy for the small crappy ring they use to attach it or something. I only used it with two basic keys

I would’ve been upset too. You’re right, if they had those options they should’ve offered them from the get-go. The quality definitely seems to be going down. Frustrating and disappointing.

My response from the manner this morning right after asking her about the “quality report” she sent in. Probably sent in nothing to be honest. When I asked to be forwarded on the correspondence she told me that it is an “internal system” and thus she cannot. Something tells me she probably did not send in anything. However when I asked her if there was a reference number she did reply to me with a quality report ID so maybe there is something I can do to escalate this.

Honestly, it seems to me you are buying, not only the name, but the quality and service behind the name for the insane (no offence) price that LV charges for these things.

The lack of quality is unbelievable. Of course that was going to happen eventually. And the fact that they could not do a “one time” replacement given the cost to them vs the profit made, especially for a long time client, is mind boggling.

I’m sorry this tainted your speedy. So short sighted.
