Nicolas Ghesquière is very interested in the rich LV archives as we've seen time and time again on the runway, so it's not surprising to see vintage elements pop up in his collections. Technically, this is an oversized "V" rather than a triangle, which has been used for decades in historic Louis Vuitton advertisement. Perhaps the most popular examples are the "Gaston V" and the "picture in the V" ads from the Deco period. To me personally it is hideous and it does not convey “Louis Vuitton”. And archival logo or not, in the modern luxury sector the triangle is most commonly used by Prada, at least in my limited experience.
Whether one likes it or finds it "hideous" is fully subjective. I was just trying to explain where it came from.
