My deepest apologies if it sounded like I was on a “woe us in the U.S.” kick! I was just grumpy as someone in the U.S. who couldn’t purchase the item I wanted.I get how you feel, too. It's annoying when something you really like isn't available "in our region" as the SAs say- I came across that a lot last year coming into LV, and it didn't make sense at all.
I suspect LV like to "test" the markets with various releases. The Midnight Fuchsia part of Spring in the City was not available at ALL in Europe and the UK, apparently, which was astounding - it's not like an entire continent hates purple and pink! Whereas you guys in the US and Canada (and us in APAC) got Midnight Fuchsia. In fact, I was travelling and you guys in the US and Canada got the Midnight Fuchsia Zippy long wallet, which parts of APAC didn't get. I was really cut that I said no to the Zippy when i travelled, but with taxes it was more expensive than a Zippy back home and I wasn't sure if the colourway for me would be a fad.
There was also the Men's Zippy Wallet Vertical in pink/bleu which had, like, 40 available in Japan alone, another 20 or more in Korea, yet zero in the rest of the world. I really wanted that but had zero chance of getting it. And then, the Sunset Khaki stuff- US and Canada had the Slim Purse and Sarah wallets, but other parts of the world didn't. Singapore had a Stardust Clea wallet that Australia didn't get. Wapity Sunrise Pastel was in the US and Canada, but not in many other parts of the world. So, yeah- some bizarre experimenting on LV's part.
Btw, I went again to North America later in the year, and there were tons of Midnight Fuchsia Papillons lying around for sale. Serves LV right for pricing that too high! So, no, it's not just the US that has stuff withheld- you actually often get things that the rest of us don't
If you really want a piece that's not in your region, it might be worth trying a personal shopper, or like a Japan resale site or something- I don't have experience with those but am sure others here can suggest.
All good, sorry if I sounded really intense in my post ! It's been awesome getting to chat with other bag lovers from all over the world here and learning from your experiencesMy deepest apologies if it sounded like I was on a “woe us in the U.S.” kick! I was just grumpy as someone in the U.S. who couldn’t purchase the item I wanted. From reading tPF, I know this is a common problem across the globe, as LV seems to limit certain items and/or colors regionally, which is unfortunate. The thing I don’t get is that LVMH seems to have figured this out once one of their brands, which includes LV, lists an item on 24S, so I don’t understand why all pieces can’t be available - at least for online order - globally. I suspect they would generate more revenue that way, so it seems like a win-win in the sense that the customer gets the item they want (subject to availability, which is a whole other rant of mine for these LE pieces, but I’ll only stand on one soapbox today), but maybe I’m missing something? Yes, I know, luxury brands favor the in-store experience and building a CA relationship, but at least one member here seems to have a pretty good relationship with their on-line CA and if retail store CAs can place orders for these items on behalf of their clients, then I don’t see any damage to at least the relationship piece.
To pile on to your comments about the Midnight Fuchsia Papillon, I’ve noticed LV is having an increasing problem selling their LE pieces, as stock is readily available weeks, if not months, after their launch. I really noticed this with the Kusama pieces: Wave 1 was still readily available in all nine LV stores on the Las Vegas Strip in early April when we were there, even though Wave 2 had just been released (and those were also readily available). I think part of this is the insanely outrageous prices they’re now charging, as you noted, but also economic downturns, people diverting money back to other things (e.g., travel) now that COVID is less of an issue and the constant LE releases. How many bags and SLGs can a person really own/use? And I just looked at those Monoglam prices in this thread… Oof. My denim Mini Pleaty, which is still in amazing condition and which I love as a summer bag, from the mid-2000’s was under $700; now you can’t get a bag in this collection for much under $2K. And I’m partial to the older denim. Even taking inflation into account, that’s a huge markup. I will be curious to see how sustainable a business model this turns out to be.
Uh ohhhhhhhh
Wow, I was really hoping to keep my wallet shut after my Kusama pumpkin slgs. I might be seriously tempted by the speedy 20 monoglam. I’m going to have to see it in person. Other temptations may be new alma bb colors coming out and maybe the nano alma depending on the size and price of that.
Thank you, it would have been nice if the strap was also part chain like some of the other Speedy 20’s
Ooooh there’s going to be a nano Alma ?Wow, I was really hoping to keep my wallet shut after my Kusama pumpkin slgs. I might be seriously tempted by the speedy 20 monoglam.
