Luxury designer handbags for investment - which brands hold their value well?

Hi.

I'm new here and also looking to make a purchase that will be an investment. I am trying to understand why so many people here aren't willing to consider handbags an investment.

Is there any investment that can be held for one year and return a profit? I guess it seems the same as any investment to me. Real estate, gold, stocks. You can't buy it thinking there will be any profit in the short term. There could even be a loss if you hold it for awhile.

Could you imagine if you bought a house, lived in it for a year and then tried to resell it? In some markets, there would be a gain and in some, there would be a loss. How many novice house flippers have lost money when they realized there were no buyers for their houses. Ironically, I just left Fez, Morocco where there's a ton of houses on the market that were remodeled and are now just sitting because no one is interested in buying. The sellers just were poor speculators.

That said, I realize that buying a luxury handbag has to be something you do because you really want it and not because you are expecting a profit in the future.

I'm looking to buy a Hermes that I can give to my daughter one day. I'd like it to be one that has a significant chance of appreciating. I could spend up to $25,000 and I only plan to wear it perhaps once a year. I just want to have something on hand in case I need to throw together a very high end outfit for my husband's invites for his job.

I'm interested in thoughts on what others would buy in this circumstance. I was thinking a smaller Kelly in a nice material would be the best option.

I think a Birkin is the safest bet as they definitely make a profit on resale due to the difficulty people have in obtaining them. I am not sure about the Kelly but I think it is also a safe bet. Chanel I feel is also a good idea if you want a keeper but I wouldn't expect a profit to be made on resale, especially with today's prices.

Thanks for your input.

Yes. I've read that Chanel has had a large increase lately. I guess the question is, are they going to keep it up. I thought Kelly's were just as hard to get. Is this not the case? Personally, I just don't care for the look if the Birkin.

I think they are also very much in demand but I am not overly familiar with the brand. All I know is that these two Hermes bag's are difficult to buy. Chanel on the other hand are a dim a dozen but still ridiculously expensive, although I have to say I prefer them to the Hermes.
