Luxe, minimalist bag that can fit a laptop AND handle its weight?

Great choices! I love both the edge and the tri fold and have considered them at various points. Please keep us posted on how the edge holds up with your laptop! Would love to see pics of all when they arrive.

also, I say pass on the Maestra bag given the other styles you gravitate towards. I fell for influencer hype and bought one in 2020 (review here). It’s definitely functional and durable, but the feel of the leather is stiff and not luxurious. The style also doesn’t do anything for me and I’d much prefer any of the other bags you have listed above

I would pass on the Maestra too. I have one, and it's heavy with a laptop and felt very unbalanced when worn on the shoulder. The leather is very stiff and I think that contributes to the discomfort wearing it.

I have the Artois MM and use it as an occasional laptop bag, without any additional laptop sleeve/protection. It's worked well, and like others have mentioned, it's reinforced at the corners so it does hold weight much better than the St Louis and retains its shape too.

My laptop is 12" long by 8" high, and it barely fits in my PS1 Medium. I plan to use it until I find something that really works, but the clasp strains to close. If you go this route, I recommend the PS1+, which is sturdier calfskin, over the PS1, which is lambskin, and the large size over the medium. I think it would be a practical choice; I'm just not in love with the look of the PS1 anymore . . .
Has anyone tried the PS1 large in general with laptops? I’ve been looking and loving this thread….but been unable to find much info on the ps1 large!

The PS1 Large should fit a 15" laptop, the Extra Large could accomoadate and even larger one. It also comes with a reinforced bottom.

Last year, Hermès was supposed to release a Plume with a shoulder strap, like this one:

But I don't know if they actually have, as I haven't heard anyone seeing it and H can be delayed in releasing stuff. I am sure it will have a laptop compartment because back in 2017, they released a bag called Plume 12H which had laptop compartment, a laptop sleeve, and padded panels:

So if you want, you can go to your nearest H store and ask. Maybe they have an old stock of the Plume 12H, maybe they have the new one.

Hope this is useful :D

By the way, I think for Goyard people were mentioning tote bags as laptop carriers. And they're not really built for that.
The Ambassade PM document case has (I think) a laptop compartment and sturdy handles that can support the weight of a standard laptop. Brooklyn Beckham uses this bag to carry his Macbook Pro (video)

Just an idea: I have to schlepp around my notebook and other things, I had the same question...now I use not a bag but a Laptop-Trolley (Rimowa Essential Sleeve Business compact) and my life is so much easier now.

I was using an MCM vertical tote, which I thought it was a good idea, thanks to the crossbody strap and durable canvas (I have a really long commute, that involves walking sometimes in rain and snow). Unfortunately, the bag is very heavy, so when you add the weight of a normal laptop (not a small and lean Mac), it ended being really cumbersome. Now that the ring that attaches the strap is broken, I’m looking for something else… unfortunately, I think I will have to sacrifice style for practicality.
My longchamp Le pliage is nice, but not hands-free…

If anyone is still looking for a quality unbranded bag checkout Kaai. The leather is good quality and the design, both internal and external, is excellent. Looks great but also practical and won’t break the bank.
Yeah! Totally! I made a little review on Reddit but will also post it here!

Hi!

Finally got the time to make a review of my Kaai Pyramid bag in cognac!

About my previous bags
My previous workbag was just a canvas, branded with my husband's optician shop logo. Very NOT safe at all to carry my Macbook pro AND you have to combine it with a handbag and then also a bag to carry your lunch... But it was light and it was what I had laying around, you know how it goes. Before that, I had a messenger bag from Longchamps which is actually a men's bag: Le Foulonné. I stopped wearing it because it was not practical and also very manly. I also have a Louis Vuitton Neverfull somewhere but it has no inner pockets whatsoever so really not practical.
A colleague of mine told me about the brand Kaai which is an Antwerp (Belgium) based brand. It's relatively new (almost 5 years old) and it was founded by two women. They had to travel a lot for work and did not find a good travel/work bag.

About the bag
I considered two models: the midi pyramid and the pyramid, the last one is the biggest. Taking into account that I'm a bit of a gadget freak and that I would be buying a new laptop in the near future, I opted for the biggest model which fits a 15,6" laptop. I've bought it in November 2022. I bought it in the Antwerp store, as I'm from Belgium but you can easily buy it on their own online store as well.
I've been using it nonstop now and I really love it! Here are some pictures of what I put inside (A LOT!) and the inner pockets which are very handy. Also, when it rains, the water just runs off the bag. You don't have to apply any crèmes or anything to the bag because it has a special coating. It also stays upright when you put it down. Might sound stupid but I really like that. I've had many compliments from colleagues and even from strangers, asking me about the brand. The only downturn might be the weight, although it doesn't bother me at all. You cannot have a sturdy handbag without it being heavy in my opinion.

Pro's and Cons
+ Lovely durable design
+ Rainproof
+ Stays upright when you put it down
+ Many inner pockets that help you stay organised
+ Laptop is really well protected
- Rather heavy
- There is no vegan option (Yet?) but doesn't bother me

Below you can find some pictures of the inside, what I put in the bag just to give you an idea and a picture where I'm wearing it to give you an idea of the size.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

Very cool, thank you for the review!!! This one reminds me of the Polene Cabas. I don’t know which one came first or anything like that.

In general, I am now also officially on the hunt for a streamlined work bag, one that can serve as a work tote when I am in travel / at a conference, which would also fit into a larger duffle bag that could go on a plane. Anyone have recommendations to share? Ideally I’d like something lighter weight that still has a reasonable delineation for a laptop and is not just an open, pocketless situation like the below.
